      Skimmer Trick

      In the spring lots of pollen and floating stuff . This is what I use to help , got this from the swimming pool guys that use a nylon stocking to help with fines

      Its a 1 gallon paint strainer from home depot , they fit perfectly and have elastic rim which stretches around the rim . But you have to clean them every day

      I use the same paint strainer bag only its the 5 gal bucket size. I have 5 of them filled with about 1.5-2 gals each of fine chicken grit, zip tie the bag shut and they are sitting on top of my filters pads in 55 gal barrel. Its the next best thing for fines that I could come up with without having a S&G filter. They work great and are easy to rinse out in a clean bucket of pond water.
      Happiness is adopting a mutt and my pond is FULL of Happiness....

      Thanks for this suggestion, we just set up 2 show tanks to use this season for quarantine tanks. We put a no niche skimmer in them and the paint strainers work perfect.
