      New Pond Build

      Hello All
New to posting here but I have been working awhile on saving up supplies to build a bigger pond and just wanted to show progress. I started out years a go with a tub in the ground holding two Shubukins but always wanted bigger. Pretty much all my supplies has been gathered over the past 5 years so this has been a long time waiting until I had every thing to start.
All the rock I gathered for free and I opted to use Great Stuff instead of Mortar which I am surprised how well it works. The pump and filter were given to me and I retro-fitted the sand filter. The skimmers are plastic platting pots with pond plant pots inside used as screen baskets.
Please let me know what you think and any suggestions are welcome.Name: IMG_1477.jpg

Well, the Great Stuff foam product might seem like a good idea NOW, believe me, it will not hold up as long as you think.

Do you have any close up pics of these "skimmers" you built and how they're installed? I don't see any mention of a bottom drain. Did you install any? What about your filtration? I know you mention you "converted" a sand filter, but how did you go about it and what media did you use inside? Is it set up for "upflow' or "downflow".

I do have a bottom drain installed and I am about to install an air diffuser that I built also, I hope the bottom drain works well because it is only 2" pipe but so far so good. I will try to get better close up pictures of the skimmers, they are square flower pots with pond plant baskets inside to catch debris. I have 1 1/2 pipe into the bottom of the flower pot and cut a weir in top front but I think I will add a rubber flap to insure debris does not flow out.
I understand about the Great Stuff and I will find out how long but so far so good, I did not want to use cement do to the more permanent nature but what i did do is make sure all rock is tightly packed and stacked (Dry Stacked). So even if it dont hold up well I feel i will be ok, if not I can drop the water level a foot and use cement.
I'm new to Koi ponds but read alot so I value any info, help, and feedback.

koiman1950 My filter is an down flow just as it was except for the media that I put in it which both I got for free. The media is a floating Bio Ball and I know that I need sinking media but again it was free. I looked at converting flow but this Hayward filter you can not change because of the valve wont allow it from what i have seen. I am saving up to by a actual pond pressure filter with UV in the near future. The bottom drain is uncover right now because I am waiting on my air pump to install my DIY cover/difusser.
