What do you know about bamboo pole?

I'm building a pergola in my backyard covering the entire patio, see pictures. I want to next put up some bamboo poles to fill out the space between cross beams. In shopping for 2" diameter bamboo, I saw several different types: timber, tonkin, carbonized, black and/or speckled...etc. Each vendor touts their being better, hard to know who is to believe. Do you know what bamboo type that is in the third picture? Thanks,

      It looks like Black, Robert.

Black is the prettiest. The others will be a tan color. Timber will probably be the longest and largest diameter.

This is funny (sorry, no pun intended at all). I reasonably just built a planter box with patio like top, and my DW asked me to use the bamboo pole (mine is green) for the structure of the patio.''

@whodatkoi, I ended up using a 2x4 as similar to you and put the bamboo pole on top. The only thing I didn't do is cross the poles on the other direction.
