Many of those koi would be GC in any show in America. Amazing koi. Would love to see a koi show like that.

Thanks for posting this video and I hope you have much success and enjoy your time in Tokyo. I agree with your assessments of the GC and the Sanke and I too like the Sanke best, with one of the Showa you also show in one of the segments here. Totally amazing fish! I hope many here view this thread/video so that they can hopefully begin to understand some of the quality traits to look for in the future. Although every one of these are very high dollar fish that would mostly never leave Japan, it gives the viewer an opportunity to see what some try to refer to here on the forum when discussing quality and it's components. One thing that I notice, that needs to be brought up is with regard to the Kohakus in the show. If some of you will notice, even including the Grand Champion, is that it has beni at the base of the tail. So, when discussing fish, especially with regards to "quality", some things are overlooked pattern-wise when the other attributes are so far superior to the competition. Important subjects like body, skin, sheen, luster and thickness of skin are all issues judged with a higher value than pattern.

42nd Kanto-Koushin Chiku koi show (a district koi show by Shinkoukai) held this weekend at Ueno Park.

I've never seen so many people at a koi show.

Great location as it is next to busy JR and Tokyo Metro lines. There are museums, a zoo, restaurants, an amusement park, shopping....you name it, this place had it.

will be putting the video together once i can free up some space on the iPhone....

video of the winners from this weekend's Kanto-Koushin show. The video was 33 minutes long but had to cut it down to 12 minutes or it wouldn't load. GC was 85 bu kohaku bred by Sakai.

      enjoy!

alrighty, not many shows this time of year but there are koi activities

I don't want to create another thread so I'll just add onto this one with any koi related events and/or visits to breeders/dealers

      first up:

Torazo! What a great way to spend a day! We chatted for about 2 hrs in his office and then bowled up some koi in the main koi house and then went to smaller koi house up the road for the better nisai that were still available.

I got a great deal on one. It wasn't what you would expect from looking at the video. Indeed the three step was more expensive and more "ready" but the longer koi has more upside. Since I'm here for up to 5 years, it was an easy decision.

while in Ojiya this past weekend to visit Torazo, I also paid a visit to Dainichi. Unfortunately both Futoshi and Shigeru were not in so I couldn't buy any koi (my wife wasn't as disappointed with this news as I was for some reason). This is a compilation of a few ponds on the property.

here is my yonsai showa, gotten beefy. measured a little over 70cm.
