      Great Blue Heron - Migration

So I had a Great Blue show up on my property for the first time in the 4 years I've been working with ponds outdoors. It cleaned most of the goldfish out of my goldfish pond and was watching the koi pond. I'm still not sure if it got any, but it is what it is. I have not seen it for the past three weeks now. Could it just have been migrating through my area? If so, will it come back next year on its migration path, or do they change migration paths?

Ime, usually once they find an easy meal, they continue to return until they have wasted their energy a few times. Once I covered the pond they were back 2-3 times, then nothing since then...

I think he may have given up because he couldn't catch anything anymore. The koi are in a well set up hard to access pond. The goldfish were in a much easier access pond.

You are in an area where many of the herons don't migrate so he could be back shortly for dinner.

He was there for like a week straight almost every time I was out there. Now I haven't seen him for a few weeks?

I saw my largest koi still swimming around in the pond. I couldn't see the rest, but the pond is not nearly as clear as usual either.
