I brought my pinwheels at the dollar stores. They do sell nicer ones at the nursery's. I find them very effective!

Is this a picture you took of the one at your pond? How awful to have to see them being taken.

Not so far as the heron flies! Ive heard there are large flocks near novi/Northville area, so they don't mind flying over to Oak Park for a bite to eat. It is freaky seeing such a large bird (or any animal), in the yard!

Heron will spear the fish through the net. I would use the pinwheels along with the net.

Not sure about hawks or owls....but they work for peliguns....So I would think that they would work for at least hawks.....Owls, because they are noctural, may not be afraid of them....

Not sure. I do know that we have a Coopers Hawk that is so bold it sits on our deck railing and looks into our window. I haven't seen it go near the pond.

Just lost all three of my koi to a heron. One per day for three days straight. He'll probably start on the goldfish next.
Pond netting should arrive in 24 hours....naturally. A day too late.

You can buy bird netting at home depot or lowes for really cheap. I went out yelling at screaming, waving my arms, and the heron never came back. Probably realized a nut job was living at the house! I think it was a young one, because I certainly scared the heck out of it. Hope your netting works, sad to lose fish to birds

Dang it! I had no idea I could get it at Home Depot. I probably paid a premium as I ordered the Aquascape branded stuff from Amazon.
Maybe I'll swing by the Depot after work today and see what they've got...

The netting needs to be about 12" above the water so the heron cannot spear the fish.

Caught this guy watching our Koi this morning

We have fishing line all the way around our pond...except in this spot next to rock. The space is only about a foot wide and he found it. Needless to say we will be reworking our line today.

The heron will simply step over the fishing line. Why are the scarecrow sprinklers not going off?

Give the pinwheels a try about every 4 foot around your pond. The Heron will not even land close to the pond.
