We are under a mandatory evacuation and had to leave our beloved Koi behind. My question is, will flame retardant kill the fish? I know it's made out of a fertilizer, essentially. Knowing this, I think it would cause a spike in the water chemistry.

Contains ammonia and nitrates which can promote algae and plant growth.
If possible, maybe tarp over the top when you get back for the ashes.
Hate you all have to evacuate. Hope they get it under control soon.
Ok, this is the King Fire?
California is facing a drought and too hot...terrible weather...we need some rain.
I hope your home is safe.
Most important, stay safe!

The fire is far worse. Containment has not increased at all. The fire is now less than a mile from the house. We are the first house to make contact with the fire. Please see this map. If you zoom in enough, you will be able to see a place called Morton Ct. That is where our house is located.

Please keep my family in your thoughts.
Btw, does Insurance cover koi? The price to replace all are certainly in the many thousands.
That is so scary, and so stressful. Stay safe, I hope they get this under control quickly!

Too close
Sheesh! Cindy, I didn't notice but the fire actually got closer to our house than yesterday. Let's hope that portion of the fire is close to being out. We'll see. ;/
I repeatedly call our house phone. I haven't yet encountered a dead line yet.
Thanks for all the well wishes. Still worried sick about our Koi.
I am praying that your koi and house stay safe.

Hey everyone. Likely my final update. It seems like things are going to turn out ok.
From my mom's facebook page:
"Of all of the thousands of firefighters fighting the King fire, we just met the crew assigned to Mosquito. They're a crew from Healdsburg and they are staying at our hotel. Not only are they working our neighborhood, they're the guys who prepped our house for the fire. They mentioned, "the house with all of the stone work and the koi pond?" They've been feeding our animals and taking care of things. Meeting these guys brought tears to my eyes, words can't describe how grateful we are!"
