Smile My Latte Pond (Mud Pond)

Here are pictures of my 5 year old mud pond. We netted 20 today and relocated them to a friends 1 acre natural pond. Water was a balmy 65 degrees. Next time I'll wear my waders.

      Still a work in progress.

Very nice! Was it that muddy before you netted them or after? That is pretty cold water for this time of year.

Yes. It stays muddy most of the season until the Koi slow down. We had some 16 inch ones that love to dig in there. And yes, that is pretty cold for this time of year. Hope we don't get a long Winter.

Actually, its not as muddy today as it was in the pictures. The only time I see my Koi are when I feed them. I like to wade in and hand feed them.

We live in Logan, Ohio (Hocking Hills region).

Lots of clay in the soil.

I'm currently pulling out several inches of soft clay from the bottom center of the pond and placing it along the perimeter. The stuff hardens like cement once it air drys.

      LOL
