      water hyacinth

I have water hyacinth and its turning yellow. Not sure why and was hoping someone could point me to the problem.

They are in a 45 gallon tub that is part of my pond system of 450+ gallons of water. There is a sand and gravel filter, Turtles and gold fish. Turtles don't have accesses to the plants. The flow rate for the tub, i'd guess is about 100 gph. I did add Concentrated Extract Barley Straw to clear up the water and was wondering if that might be the issue?

Its sucked all the nutrients out of the water. Put them in a bucket of water with some Miracle Grow.

When you say "Its", is that the hyacinth or the barley?

The hyacinth needs nutrients. The barley might have pulled them out quicker.

If you want to get really fantastic Hyacinths add a bit of chelated iron powder to a pint of water and start putting it in daily a few drops at a time depending on the quantity of water in the system. It will turn them green and make them bloom! Your nursery supply store will have this or you might have to search for it on line but it is not difficult to find or use.

When we brought in Hyacinths in large numbers they were mostly yellow. So we set up a couple 12'X6' dog kennels with tubs inside and began to treat them with chelated iron. My customers went wild about the color and the blooms.

Can the Chelated iron be added to the pond water or only to the tub that I have them in?
