Hello,
I am still learning a lot of about the different breeds/types of koi and am having trouble categorizing this fellow, he was one of the first koi I purchased. Is he a kinginrin Kawarimono? Something else?
Thanks!

i believe it is a purachina ogon. This fish definitely has a wow factor. love the way the metallic skin and the prismatic scale and the gin are working together here.
Looks like he was brushed w gold! Very pretty!
Well, actually it appears to be a poor rendition of a metallic Chagoi. You could class it in the Kawarigoi class, but it is not gin rin, just a bit of metallic.

If you don't mind being not very specific, how about Hikari Muji?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Maybe kin matsuba based on Barb's Hikari Muji thought. http://www.kloubeckoi.com/hikari-muji-koi/
Based on the description in the link above golden pine cone sounds pretty accurate. If not he is still a fun fish.
Thanks.

Lol, that's what I meant. Mukashi ogon. Lol. To bad we don't speak Japanese or this would be easier.
I think this is an Ogon with golden colour I had couple I crossed chagoi with Kogane Ochiba and come out several like this. This is actually a metallic chagoi..

It may be a cross, but it would have to be benched as an ogon, and because of the color, the best fit would be mukashi. By definition, chagoi are not metallic
I think that fish is stunning!!!!!

No, it would be benched as kawarigoi as it doesn't really fit any varietal category except "all other". I guess you haven't seen these before, but even Russ posted pics on one of his travel journals that showed "metallic Chagoi". Breeders are constantly looking for a way to make a new "sellable" product out of sow's ears and this is one of those!

If the breeders are calling it a metallic chagoi then it is a miss-nomenclature as chagois are not metallic. That's like saying metallic sanke....
Gorgeous either way IMO!
