We are finally headed out of Knoxville for Louisville! This has been quite an adventure so far for my first time showing fish. I had been very careful to save all the boxes I have had koi shipped in and the bags. Howver my son got married at my house last weekend and had a reception for 170 in my backyard. . We had between 15-25 people at my house helping setup and cleanup for 10 days before. It seems there are some things I may not find until the house and garage are dismantled. I meant to order back up bags but got so tied up in wedding preparations that I forgot. So we have a strange combination of giant ziplock bags and some koi bags I ordered a long time ago that are very thick and hard to get a rubber band on. As for boxes/coolers there were no koi boxes to be found and all our coolers were too tall to fit in the car.. So my husband went to ups and we spent an hour+ cutting and taping boxes to fit, sort of.
We moved the koi in the main pond that are going to the show down to the quarantine tank yesterday so I could check them out and make sure they were ready to go. However when I caught my ginrin Kohaku i found FIVE anchor worms on her. Preparations went into slo mo while I gathered my doctoring stuff, anesthetized her and removed the anchor worms and treated the sites.
By this time we were well past our projected departure time of 1300, so I called the koi show to make sure we could still come on tonight. Reassured that there would be somebody there we began catching and checking all the remaining koi. No more anchor worms found, bagged, oxygenated, and 10 broken rubber bands later we are loaded in the car and ready to go! My husband Russ did an amazing job of fitting a koi measuring tub, a 24" koi net and pole, two suitcases, two chairs, an oxygen tank and various other supplies into an Audi A6. We. Are. Packed. To. The. Gills!! So to speak. I will post pictures when I can.
