      LadysSolo's fish

My fish arrived yesterday. Usually work 1/2 day Tues, but got sent to a new place and didn't get home till late. Got the fish settled in, the kohaku is GORGEOUS (yes I'm shouting), and the little sanke is too cute! Not much sumi, but I think it will come. The Kohaku is significantly bigger than the sanke. I will try to get pics this weekend, will not be home early enough tomorrow or Friday. I am thrilled with the quality of these fish - Kleinholz Koi is a domestic breeder to be proud of if these are any indication of his usual quality. Carolyn

The sanke keeps trying to hide under the sponge filters, by the time I pick up the filter to get him out and then get the camera ready, he is getting back under the filter. I didn't want to stress them by bowling them since they haven't even been here a week yet - so I did what I could in the quarantine tank. I know the flash wasn't ideal either, but the tank is in a stall in the barn. You can still get an idea of how nice the kohaku is though - she's always out and cruising around, the sanke is the "shy" one. I am thrilled with them. The pictures don't do them justice......

Did you buy these from Kleinholz? I would think starting your own thread in Main or in the goldfish forum would be appropo (sp) as these threads are reserved for the individuals who purchased fish from Kleinholz farm for a growout project.

      Thanks for your understanding!

Well, I moved the "kids" up to the house today, and took some better pictures outside. Can finally start feeding them better since the weather is warmer. Will try to post the pics I took.

Not working at the moment - will try again later.

Yes, they were on the way up to the house in the tub. I stopped and took their picture on the way. Still kind of "spooky" in the pond, spend a lot of time hiding under the water hyacinth and water lettuce. But they are getting fed more since out of the barn/quarantine!

Well, something got both of them last night. Totally netted pond, something pushed the netting aside (suspicion of raccoon) and I found 5 scales on the ground this afternoon. The fish were there last evening, and something was in the barn last night and took a bag of apples, and I found the koi gone today when I got home from work when I went to feed them. The cats drink out of the goldfish tubs and never bother them, and I think two 10-inch koi would be too much for the cats to handle (plus I keep two full food dishes in the barn at all times in a room with a cat door to keep the 'coons out.) So either a raccoon or a possum (I have seen the possum in the barn too.) Sucks! We also have coyotes, but I think they would have pulled the netting off instead of pushing it aside. No matter, they are gone, but I am mad!

Thank you all - it gets very frustrating. I don't mind sharing my world with "critters," but I DO mind them eating my pets. I was getting pretty attached to those fish - you could almost watch them stretch and grow daily.
