      Trickle rate and benefit?

I was contemplating about to putting a small trickle and leak out. So let make math simple, 1000gallon pond would need water change 10% per week. So roughly 1% per day. If I can design a leak out at the level where pond would be, whatever I trickle in will not overflow pond. With that say, 1% per day is 10 gallon which is nothing. or is that a good rate?

Plan: 55 gallon barrel with autofill valve so the barrel always full. Gravity drip line leak into the pond at about 1-2gph. Water going into the barrel will be filter by an Amco Hose Carbon filter to take some chlorine/chloramine out.

Is that seem feasible and reasonable?

I trickle 25g per day into my 650g pond, with an overflow. Here is a handy trickle calculator - using this shows that I am actually changing 23.6% per week.

      http://www.angelfish.net/DripSystemcalc.php

10 gallons per day on a 1000g pond would only be 6.76% per week.

At 10% per week you're basically just replacing evaporation and doing nothing towards "water changes" or reducing pollutant levels in the water.

do at least 25% water change weekly to see the benefit especially when your gallonage is less than 2000 and also depend on fish stock level. My smaller pond 1400 gallons I do about 300 gallons every three days so roughly 700 gallons weekly so yes I do 50% water change weekly since I am over stock.

you can further protect yourself and fish,,by using another container that your trickle goes threw by filling it with a carbon and zeolite mix...........say a 4" pipe 2-3 feet long filled 50-75% with the mix........just drill small 1/8" holes in a 4" cap to have on the bottom of the pipe

Just a caution here, if you ever salt the pond remove the zeolite first. Salt will make it release all the ammonia it's attracted.

only if the zeolite is in the pond.....but since it will be used for his city water and out of the pond it wont have no effect at all.................

So if I go 50% over 7 days, do i still need big water change per week?

50% over 7 days should be good. Always important to test your water parameters about once a month in the spring through fall. If you get elevated nitrates/nitrites/ammonia then you need to do a big single dose water change.

Base on his old pond rebuilt thread, I believe 2500-3000 gallons. So 50% weekly is decent for his pond size and about 30 kois? As his area temp raise up do increase the percentage water change will be better. I remember some wise koi master said, water is cheaper than electricity. From what I understand minimum 10% water change daily is good but 20% daily is better. So for his pond relatively to his number of kois, about 300 gallons daily change would be beneficial.

Its about 2500 gallons. I just read a trickle can help remove some hormone in the water that prevent from growing.

PP can also do that and more but water change is safer and better in long run. Water change will reduce Nitrate, hormone and bad floating pathogen as well. You have very decent filtration system and now you incorporate the trickling water change will be major boost to your fish health. If you can afford 10-20% water change daily this will give your fish the best living water.
