      Additionally:

Do not get it into or on the gills. Do not use on the mouth because it can pass down to the gills.

While I tend to agree with what you say, it doesn't address the proper way to use it which is why it could possibly have an impact on the gills.

Actually it is quite safe to use iodine in the mouth or near the gills. It comes down to the proper sedation, and the application of the product. I've treated quite a few bacterial ulcers in the mouth by simply holding the fish head-down and swabbing the area thoroughly. I allow it to drip out of the mouth quite harmlessly. I continue to hold the fish head-down for about three-four minutes. Then simply wash the area with a large glass of water. The water is poured slowly through the gills. Then revive. Never have had any problem with it. So, yes, it can be used in the mouth.

BTW, one of the most obvious symptoms of an ulcer breaking out in the mouth is the spitting out of food and gradual weight loss. It generally affects one fish in a collection. I've never seen multiple outbreaks...........but I suppose it could happen.

Karl - I have some fishes that doing that during feeding time, but I thought they were eating too much at once. No sign of losing weight. Should I be concern and start treating ?

      Absolutely true Karl:

I hate typing all that out but Thank You for doing it. I have and do use iodine and h2O2 on the head and gill plate very conservatively and usually with only a Q-tip at a time. As you say it can be done safely and my comments were intended more as a warning of what can happen if the OP had not considered them. Especially if the fish is not sedated

Perhaps. The only way to know if there is an issue in the mouth is to inspect it. Sedate the fish. You may want to use a flashlight to clearly see any red/raw areas. Take your time and inspect the top, bottom, and pay special attention to the sides of the mouth.

After apply the Iodine to the koi, cover with propolis for a better result . This propolis works as a band aid when the koi hit the water.

I would not do this. My experience with products like this is quite simple. The marketing department of a company or conglomerate simply sees a way to market another product which neither improves or affects a particular malady. Preposterous is a fine example. Simply swab this material on and of course the effects are exactly as I indicated. Preposterous. Ooops, propolis........
