Yes. Zac Penn has a suction RDF system that he brought. Its a very cool set up and I think he was flowing around 9000 gph on it. There is more he wants to do with it, and once done he noted he would create a gravity version of it as well. I will probably have a few photos of it to post tomorrow after I go back there. It has caught the eyes of a few people.

I didn't hang around with Zac much, but what I saw/heard he was smart in the design. It looks like he listened to common issues with RDF and solved some of them in his design as well. I am sure he will get a video of it up at some point once its more finalized.

I won't steal his thunder much, but its very cool. Large solid separator to keep the valves on the waste from clogging, things to force items like acorns from spinning in the filter avoiding the waste. I will take pics and let him get into details.

It is at a standstill right now, waiting for better weather then I'll get back on it. I was out looking at it this morning before the rain started back up, I am itching to get back at it.

It about time I updated this thread to show some progress that has been made. Especially since I am bringing the new version to this years CFKS.
I am going to go through some of the flaws in the original show prototype and then show how they were fixed...
As you can see in the forth picture from last years show the drum seal is just loose fitting vinyl fabric that was glued to the drum. This was due to my custom designed lip seals not being delivered on time.
Also the gear teeth on the drum (blue strip around the drum) was too fine of a tooth profile so if the drum wobbled even the slightest bit the pinion would start to jump teeth.
In the third picture you can see the waste trough is open ended on the dirty water side of the drum. This was allowing waste to drop right back into the dirty chamber and go back into the drum.
Also in the forth picture you can see a black strip that wraps around the micro-screen. This is a Velcro Uni-Strap material and it is surprisingly good at keeping compression on the double sided tape, which keep the micro-screen in place. Even though this Velcro held up for a year on a previous prototype drum, I wanted to get something more secure in the future designs.
The control box for the prototype filter was very crowded and all of the cords were hardwired into the box. This made transporting the filter very difficult due to the valves being attached as well as the jet pump...

When I got back form the show improvements were made...
So first things first I started on making the control box more user friendly. I installed power sockets for all of the valves, jet pump, and inlet power so the control box could be moved separately without wires connected to them. To handle the float switch inputs I used a data cable terminal so the cables would remain with filter instead of with the control box. I also upgraded the components and designed my own circuit board with easy screw terminals incase anything needed to be replaced...

Then I started modifying the filter...
Here it is with the top installed.

It is kind of cool how the reflection makes it look like one of the spray nozzles is shooting. You can also see the upgraded tooth pattern on the drum

My custom Lip Seals were delivered.

This was a feature on the original drum but I didn't outline it earlier. The structural ribs for the drum are also scoops that will deliver anything that goes into the drum to the waste trough.

As the drum rotates the scoops trap the large debris, some of which can roll over small straight support ribs like acorns, and due to the angle of the scoops the waste cannot roll off the scoop until after it is above the waste trough.

And here is a picture of the waste trough exit. You have complete access to the inside of the drum by removing one screw on the trough and sliding it out of the filter. You can also see the worm gear clamp that is used to compress the micro-screen onto the drum.

Oh, that looks like it has potential. I was just thinking today if a suction-based RDF would be able to work, and it appears someone else is thinking the same thing. I'll definitely be interested in hearing more about this, especially if it would just be a matter of removing my Zakki Sieve and placing the Zakki RDF in the same place.

Is it possible to have the inlet/outlet in the same relative place as the Zakki Sieve? That would make upgrading without major plumbing changes a breeze!

EDIT: The only other thing I worry with an RDF would be operating it during the winter (I keep my pond going all year round). With the supply line for the clean water sitting dormant, I'd be worried it would freeze.

Unfortunately it would not be that simple. The inlet on the Zakki Sieve is I think around 24" from the bottom. The inlets on the Zakki RDF are right at the bottom. However the pump outlet is installed at the same height as on the sieve, it I could install the outlet directly over the inlet so that would be easy for you.
