      A Frog or a Cat?

I have only seen this once around my pond, but I am demo'ing my kids play set and found a group of these screaming frogs. Anyone know what kind of frog this is? FYI no frogs were hurt in the filming of this video, lol.

Based primarily on the size of the frog....and you being in FL....I would have to suggest the Cuban tree frog (Osteopilus septentrionalis). They are substantially bigger than the native greens and barkers ( Hyla cinerea and H. gratiosa ). The 'screaming' is a bit of a red herring when it comes to an ID; any number of frogs 'scream' when distressed. Working around ponds I hear it frequently when a snake has grabbed a frog and the frogs can be any of the tree frogs or a leopard (Rana sphenocephala ).....can't recall hearing it from a bull frog (Rana catesbeiana).

I had a Chessie that could not stand the screaming and always led me to the scene of the crime to free the frog and make it stop....and mostly down here they were the Cuban TF.

I watched my Giant Kitty Flame chase a Toad around the WLF when I was raking leaves from under the trees recently and it screeched just like that ....

All was well though once I pinned her to the ground and asked my son to remove said toad (once calmed) a half mile away

Amazing Specimen .. wish I had captured it on video as you have

Ha, if I touched it my wife wouldn't touch me for a week, lol. She is deathly afraid of frogs, just watching the video she gets weirded out. Actual contact and I would be contaminated in her eyes. There was about half a dozen in there, that was the last two once the camera was out. It was funny as I got it on the wood and flung it towards the side yard, it screamed the whole way which had my daughter giggling pretty hard.

Good thing I didn't touch it either, just looked it up..."Their toxic mucus can burn the eyes and trigger an allergic (or asthmatic) reaction; as a result, this species is not an ideal pet species, especially for children."

So what is it. Species wise.

As was mentioned and you have found out. Cuban tree frog. Apparently they have large suction cups on toes compared to other frogs. They also have very large eyes compared to other frogs. You can search through u tube or google. Make sure they are Cuban tree frogs and then euthanize. Apparently you are supposed to contact agency and let them no so they can document the information.

Common bull frogs will sometimes make long screaming noises when threatened. A few years ago when we were netting very large frogs out of our koi pond at night we caught a screamer. It was so loud and entertaining my wife recorded it on her phone. She plays it back for all of the disbelievers and most can't believe it is a frog screaming. Just search for "screaming frog" in UTube and you will find many funny examples.

I went out to the pond tonight, this one seems to match the Cuban pretty close without having to slice it open for blue bones.

I hope the agency deals with yours for you

Tadpoles have been recorded `screaming` to when threatened apparently http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth...00/8609235.stm

Looks like it is a natural Amphibian reaction to predation

Must be a pretty dangerous frog, having to poke it with a 2 by twice and all that.
I have screaming frogs here (Washington state) but they aren't that big, and don't look anything like that.
I have never seen that one before, but I think it's cool.

Found a couple more today taking apart the play set more. UF guy said thanks for emailing, said they were CTF and that was it. They didn't care beyond that.

Apparently the poison thing is not a big deal at all from what I have read. I'm sure you well be doing your own research on this creator as to what direction you well take. There is even sights that explain how to euthanize them humanly if that is were you go.
