      Dark algae

We have had our pond for 6 years it is about 1600 gallons with a 8 foot stream with a very good density of vegetation. The last 2 years the rocks in the pond have a very dark thin layer of algae I think on them I have seen other ponds that don't have this discoloration the stream stays very clean we use green clean on it and we use pond balance in the pond but can' control the dark coloring algae on the mail pond any suggestions and Thanks in advance.

Do your koi graze on this algae? This sounds like carpet algae which is normal in a pond and is good for the fish.

My pond I built nine years ago has had this from the start. Not an issue that I am aware of. Your gonna catch some flack about your rocks though.

That amount of algae is normal and healthy. If you want clean rocks in your pond without algae, then get rid of the fish and treat the water as you would a swimming pool with high levels of sodium hypochlorite. If you want fish, then leave the algae alone. Now, if you had blanket weed or string algae, then you could do something about it, but what you have is what you should have.

Thank You up until this year we never had the algae on the rocks like this I thought it was normal I have seen other ponds where there is about no algae on rocks they said they used Algae Fix which I read it can be fatal to fish I would rather ask for some advise before I do harm to my wife's fish that could be harmful to me self preservation ask first Thanks again.
