Nice set up you have there. They have a lot of room to grow for now. Looking good. Keep us updated....with pics of course.
Well...new updated pix from today & yesterday, they're noticeably fish shaped now! Got forked tails and teeny dorsal fins instead of that larval eel-like tail. Updated count is 31 fry! I know I culled 4 deformed ones and found 3 dead..but it seems like they're out of the damping off stage now and haven't had a death since the last update.
There's a massive yellow fry in there that I'm guessing is going to be a kohaku...and it's got red eyes?!? SEE FIFTH PIC! Super excited about this one I really wanted something akame but thought I'd need to buy one...it is also the biggest fry of the group, won't stop eating!
Working on a mini trickle tower for them atm! Should be ready by the time they move into the main tank!
Stacy,
How old are they now?
Looks like your having fun.
Friends now and forever, across a great divide. Fish brought us together, but hearts of one mind keep us together. Joey S.
looking good..!!!! they gonna grow into pretty koi soon.. better prepare
Yeah!! Fun but challenging little buggers to raise! Next year...it'll be planned, varieties separated..the whooole setup. Want a bunch of little showa/utsuri & ochiba babies and I have some (small) pond liners
Actually building a wood frame 5x7x2 QT/fry/spawning pond once I get all my barrel filters situated with the main herd. I'm doing online college next semester so I'm going to have quite a lot of time to fiddle around with my fish hobby
Waterchanges 2x daily (maybe overkill for only 31 fry??? lol) and feeding mostly live baby brine shrimp and crushed mizuho growth pellets. Plus ground up krill & bloodworms!
Stacy,
I was suppose to take some online college classes, but put it off until next year. I having so much fun. At least I can practice my English writing and grammar on this forum.
True! Nothing like real experience instead of just reading textbooks and staring at a dictionary! So I take it English isn't your first language then? I never would have noticed so you're doing good
In other news, the minis have hit 1/2"! Thinking about moving them out of the fry unit and into the tank in the next week..and I think I miscounted a tad! I'm seeing 32 instead of 31. Pix tomorrow..I definitely have 3 akame and all of them are pale yellow so maybe kigoi!?

Stacy, I just got a certificate in accounting, and I need a few more classes for my associate. Then maybe latter I will transfer to UH and go for my bachelors degree. I was a licensed IBEW union journeyman electrician before I injured my left hand on the job. I'm in the process of settling my case with the insurance company. In the mean time, I got a free pass to Day Trade the stock market and play with my koi.
BIG update! AKA: they grew
Biggest one is currently over 1/2"! I think they are exactly 2 weeks old from egg today, and they actually look like mini koi now! There's a few very very dark ones in the mix (chagoi??) some in-betweens, a few yellow, and three akame! Oh and one pure white one that I think has a crooked mouth
They're a *little* harder to photograph now that they move around a lot more lol
Very nice.. Good keeping they look much bigger now
Stacy, your fish is growing fast! I wonder how the kigoi will turn out. Please keep us posted.
Thx
Well the 78-82 degree water is probably helping a bit Seriously it is HOT upstairs/where the fry tank is!! I don't even have a heater on it.
Also, feeding is currently:
70% live baby brine shrimp
20% powdered mix of krill, bloodworms, Mizuho growth, and Blackwater max
10% frozen daphnia
SO lots of protein!! I was thinking of grinding up some nori sheets because that's like spirulina almost.
My pond water has finally cleared from being green and I tried looking for little fry in there but no luck..so probably only 32 from this spawn.
I think I'm going to move them to the main tank tomorrow because the fry unit is getting a leeeetle cramped
ps- I am going crazy not knowing what varieties they are...can't wait till they are 2"+!!!

I sure do hope my fry are koi. Mine are a bit further along than yours I think, but still too small to see barbels. No deaths yet that I have been able to find anyway. I have air running and have done some slight water changes, but there are only about 15-20 fry in there. The rest must have become big koi food. This was a totally unplanned spawn just like yours, so we'll see what happens.
