I'm fourteen and in the hobby! I started out when I was eleven, although back then I was keeping bettas in one gallon bowls. But I never stopped wanting to learn. I soon had four bettas all in 2.5 gallon aquariums with filtration and heating. I started researching koi at age twelve. I started my first saltwater aquarium when I was twelve, although it failed, but afterwards I sold two of my bettas and one died. At thirteen I started my first freshwater aquarium, my 38 planted. That one is still running. I also started a 20 gallon planted, but I took that down. And at fourteen, after two years of researching, I finally got my first koi pond! I can see myself still being in the hobby at age sixty, when we'll have automatic water changers and algae cleaning robots.

Welcome to the club. I hope you are right on the future, I am still waiting on my flying cars promised with the Jetsons. I would settle for a Back to the Future Hover Board at this point, lol.

I'm 19 and have been a member since last year :D I'm in charge of researching and stuff for my family's pond. We built a beautiful AS style pond last year with an upper and lower pond but since the year has past we have discovered that it's just to hard to maintain and are building a legitimate koi pond, within my mother's budget and amount of work limit lol.

I commend the parents for supporting/tolerating the hobby

Hi I am Harrison, I am 21 years old, I have been a Koiphen member for a little while now, mostly I have used it as an informational resource but I am looking to get more involved and felt like this thread was a good place to start. As far as my koi experience goes; my family got into the koi hobby when I was still at a young age (at the time we lived in Louisville, KY) and they associated with many of the builders in the area, I can even remember going to the koi show there when I was quite young. As I have gotten older me and my dad have built numerous ponds for ourselves, and the hobby just continued to grow. When we were relocated to Louisiana I fell away from the koi scene for awhile just because I felt like the hobby was not as big here and there was a lack of resources. Eventually I was hired at a nursery that claimed they specialized in "water features" therefore I rekindled my liking of the hobby. Not long after I was hired I left the nursery realizing that the ponds that were being built were not up to par compared to what I was used to. So I have met some people and have been working and building ponds for myself while I finish college and then hope to one day open my own business.
