My Orchids and Violets are blooming. Continuing thread from 2013.

Nothing special. I have whites & two shades of yellow. I have a purple one but it hasn't bloomed yet. Here are some pics. I would love to see other's orchid pics.

Ours always die as well. What's the secret in terms of watering and light?

Apparently mine thrive on neglect...not too bright light and let them dry out between watering...I almost killed one by keeping it constantly damp so all the roots rotted. Your's look cool Nancy, none of the 12 I have bloomed yet (they are tiny) but there IS a bud starting on my red-orange cattleya

I went to Longwood Gardens last week though and they have an orchid room with over 100 plants, I took over 900 PICTURES!!
      (none of these are mine)

Thank you everyone. I grow mine along side of my African Violets.

Stacy thank you for sharing the beautiful pics you took of the orchids.

Darlene I have another yellow one that I forgot to get a pic of. It is a yellow - green color. I will post it later today.

Huge blooms! Beautiful! And yes, they need very little water (about a teaspoon or tablespoon a week at most).

Beautiful LARGE orchids. I have some but they certainly don't attain that size of bloom. I am fighting scale bugs on mine. :-(

I am attempting to do the first repot on my one and only orchid. The roots are coming out of the pot. I know nothing about
orchids, so went on line to look up repotting Seems pretty easy. I have never had one live long enough to have roots
      Your's look beautiful.

Pam look at the first pic I posted in this thread. You can see roots coming out of the pot. Those are aerial roots & are vital to the health of the plant. They are to be growing out of the pot. Never cut them off, unless they are dried up & dead.

Thanks so much Nancy. I thought it needed to be repotted Shows how much I know about orchids. My DD bought it for me and I have been
trying to keep it alive. I know she paid alot for it.

Beautiful! Your blooms are so large! I don't have good luck with them. I can keep them alive, but no blooms. I buy pretty fake ones, no worries there!

My orchids are still around. "lol" They are about 10 years or more old. Here are some pics of the white ones that are blooming now. One plant has 19 large blooms and another plant has 17 blooms. I still have my yellow ones. They are just stating to open. I will post pics once they have bloomed out.

Beautiful Nancy. I still have the one my DD gave me and have followed the guidelines so now she brought me
home another one. I hope mine live as long as yours.
