Well I hope that never happens. But if it does, I would turn the pool into a large pond and use your screen room for protection.

Its an hour plus drive to the beach. I can walk out the back door and take 10 steps before hitting the pool. If I take a three step detour I can get over to the patio fridge and grab a beer for the swim too. That and in summer I mow in swim trunks and then just hop in the pool after. It has some serious advantages.

On a bright note I have been taking pictures of the Asagi with sunburn every day and it appears to be getting better. Hopefully in another week or so it will be much closer to normal looking. The few marks on the Soragoi are no longer visible and the small scratches on the head of an Ochiba appear to be fully healed over. I did see the other larger ochiba had a scrape across a gill plate, but I am sure that will heal in time as well. The fearful nature from the incident is fading and they are eager to eat again so it has become easier inspect and monitor the damages.

The new fish are doing well in the pond. The goldfish and tosai are competing for food and eating from my hands already. I also got word that my Karashigoi are out of QT with Genki. I am hoping to have them in QT here next week.

It looks like the goldfish collection might get expanded as well. This morning I woke up to the guys chasing around a female in the tank. Stripped the female Ranchu of her eggs and then milted all the boys I could. It will be a cross of the Orange Ranchu with Blue Oranda, R/W Ryukin, an d Tri Color Oranda. It would have been nice to cross with the other Ranchu but the others are female or not producing milt. Regardless they mix is now sitting in an aerated bucket in the garage to see what happens.

Goldfish fry are popping out, few more every day. I will keep them in the bucket for a bit longer and then move them into something larger with a sponge filter. Some family members that have wanted fish are thinking of getting a small tank so they can keep a few of the babies.

Meanwhile the pond is still a little out of wack. The fish behavior is a bit off with some huddling at times. Most are feeding pretty well. As they come up I noticed another with a little sunburn, but nothing like the large Asagi. It is healing up visually at least. I also noticed the large Yama has a tear in the flap of skin at the edge of her gill plate. Today I ended up doing a PP treatment incase of any parasites from the stress and such. Added a low amount of salt as well. Still just watching and waiting.

Yup. I am waiting a week before I remove anything. Tomorrow I plan to try and remove the fry from the bucket and place them in my measuring bowl to see how they do.

I've been successful using a long length of aquarium tubing to siphon individual little fry buggers into a new container. The same siphon tube can be used to pull out the moldy eggs.

Thanks for the tip. I went ahead and did that to pull out the few that actually hatched. Next time I am going to try and get the bucket in a warmer location to speed up hatch time before eggs go moldy. For now the few that hatched and survived thus far are sitting in about 4 inches of water in a large measuring tub. Hopefully I can get a few to grow out.

My fry development pics ended where they started. I had them in my measuring bowl on the back patio and something had a big snack one night.

On a positive note the QT tank is running and Wednesday morning my two Konishi Karashigoi will show up. I told my 7 year old son that they grow to be monster sized fish. He has already dubbed them Kaiju.

Kevin at Genki. He is doing a grow out event of sorts with KKONA where he had 50 of them and he would give out prizes after a year.
