I think most catfish foods use a lot of grain byproducts.
I can't find the NutriSource catfish diet ingredients but here are the ingredients for Tops Catfish food which has a similar analysis:

Dehulled soybean meal, wheat middlings, ground yellow corn, fish meal, animal by-products meal, corn gluten feed, cottonseed meal, salt, ground limestone, dicalcium phosphate, choline chloride, calcium pantothenate, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, riboflavin supplement, niacin, folic acid, thiamine, vitamin B-12 supplement, vitamin-A supplement, vitamin-E supplement, ascorbic acid, d-activated animal sterol) vitamin D-3), and traces of ethylenediamine dihydriodide, iron carbonate, copper sulfate, manganous oxide, zinc oxide and cobalt carbonate.

Hmmm I looked at the Catfish food (for my catfish and 6 flags koi pond) and it was a 40# bag. Wish my TSC carried it in 50# sizes. I think the floating catfish food at my feed store (not TSC) is $18 but it is a full 50# bag. If you are feeding the catfish food to koi in a non natural pond you do need to be careful of the fish developing fatty liver disease. I believe it is due to the amount of corn in the food, or at least i think that is what I read somewhere. Just a thought.

I have also read where people contribute fatty liver disease to catfish food. I don't know how accurate that is, but it seems plausible to me.

My opinion is I don't like the food . Its too crumbly and loose not a tight pellet . i think the bag would be all crumbs by the time I got halfway through . Not sure if i will useit, maybe give it to a farm ponder

I have used the TSC catfish, Purina AquaMax Omnivore and Pond Fish Chow and Ziegler Bronze for Koi in mud ponds. All are blended and approved for omnivores including carp and have fat and protein content similar to leading brands of Koi food. Are they all quality foods, YES. Are they as good as Koi labeled food? I have no idea and you won’t find any documented research data to prove either way. Some people have complained that the pellets fall apart easily. I have not found this to be true but I also don’t overfeed and have food floating around for long periods. For lined ponds I have not seen a difference from Ziegler Bronze and other more expensive foods from Blackwater Creek, BlueRidge and TommyBoy (joke). People incorrectly complain about small amounts of corn blended in and there is now a growing group that says wheat is bad (new pet food co. marketing tactics).

Most Grand Champions are raised in mud ponds using inexpensive (but high quality) food. Give it a try it isn’t going to cost you much. There are a lot of inexpensive high quality foods out there that are approved and blended for carp (KOI).
