      Showa #1

I got my GO Showa #1 today, and it arrived safely in top shape. It measured around 11 inches with good body conformation. I have enclosed pictures with close-ups, any comments are welcome. I couldn't tell for sure yet but the vent looked more like male than female. body and color gave me hope it could be female. so we will see...

I hope it turns out big, the body length and the shoulder hump is what attracted me. BTW, YOUR SHOWA#3 was my next pick.

I like it. Good shiro. Nice long body. It almost looks like there is some more bene hidding under the thick shiro.

Is it possible to have more beni showing up later? that would be great! "wishful thinking"

The big concern with this koi is bene. Hopefully it will tighten up.

I think the body shape looks good. Hi and sumi balance well. I like the break between the hi and sumi on the back. The only negative is the hi looks spotty on certain areas but is still a great fish. But hey what do I know

I agree, if its hi in the tail portion was bigger and more stable, this would be a quite expensive koi. The basic elements of a good quality koi is there, just need to pray for more emerging sumi/beni to balance out the pattern. This is the fun part about a grow out koi, its exciting to see how it tran sforms.

Oops, I've just realized that the koi is almost 10 inches, not 11.... my measuring mark on the viewing bowl starts at 1 not zero...

Maybe, or not, it looked less messy, so either some specks went away or it just consolidated. The left tip hi plate is still there that's not visible in the photo. Motoguro consolidated as well.

      Update

      Here is the stat: 10/13/13
      16.5", female (slightly eggy now).
Body bulked up, nice height, but tail is weak.
shiroji is good, sumi is ok, but beni appears thin.
      Any comments?

If that tape is in inches, it sure looks bigger than 16.5"!! Nice job.

BTW, the weak spotty beni in the tail section now fused to a single plate, more evident in the last sideview photo. Also, sumi is starting to appear from the left pec fin possibly forming a Y head pattern in the future.

I love the front half of this one, the tail section lagged as you said. You did a great job reaching 16+

Thanks. Only if she could have the beni on your kohaku.... The GR hariwake I've got was about the same size and she grew to 17.5", so I'm not sure if 16.5" on this one is good or it's just in the norm?
