      Growout Showa #42

I love showas because, to me, they're a total mystery.
So for me, only time will tell... I'll just watch and learn.

I am sure we will see a lot of changes. I just hope the secondary beni at the end of the dorsal either comes in or fades away. I know from experience with a sanke that it can distract. Keep posting and we will find out.

^ It might even get covered up, there's loads of lurking sumi over the whole fish, I think it'll turn out to be a nice classic looking showa, but I don't have much experience raising them either

Your getting some pretty good growth, particularly for Washington weather?

Thanks, hopefully the beni will get a chance over the winter to consolidate and will hold together. Water temp is 55* now and will
probably only go down from here.

Maybe you pushed the growth too much and the beni got stretched beyond its limit.

Probably... In the Pacific NW we get about 2 months of water temps at or over 70*, so I've fed
      a lot during that time.

The high today at coastal southern California was 92. I was holding off feeding until it cooled down a bit. We do have our share of problems due to the fluctuating temperature.

I always wonder if ponders in Pac NW do flow-thru since water is more plenty. If the rain water isn't acidic, one can even re-direct the rain water to the pond.

I think many do flow through. I don't do rainwater but I am on a well and I rely on auto water changes totaling about 120 gallons a day, fwiw.

Well water? I am so jealous.

I still remember the dirty look I received when I told my friends from Vancouver that I like rain.

Don't forget to get measurements and enter your grow outs into the Virtual Koi/Goldfish show, see how well your selecting and husbandry stacks against the others in the grow out.
