I voted Japan but whether or not I actually participate will be dependant on final price.

Quality is quality, so I am not opposed to a non-wwkc vendor finding the koi. I tell ya what Rain...I will run the polls, you find the vender...

Once we get pricing, if its too much for everyone we can come back and get stateside pricing. The growout will be no fun if too few people can do it.

      4. Looking at the previous growouts...I think the only memorable ones were the Marusei Chagoi and the PSKoi Atrashi Sumi growouts...the others kind of fizzled. I guess the question becomes how to measure the success of a growout? Participation? Sales figures? Or by how many people still have these fish swimming in their pond years later.

Many don't happen at all because not enough people (can) participate....

      I would rank it as

1- Participants, the more the better.
2- number still alive after a certain point
3- growth over that same time frame
4- long term ownership as I think happiness with the purchase and development over time is big. While we can track for 6 months to a year, it would nice to see follow ups after that as the koi reaches maturity.

Another point to consider is that shipping will run about $65ish.
Is there value in buying a <$100 fish and pay nearly the same in shipping?

Are you offering to have all koi sent to you and you will deliver them personally to save costs?

      I'm interested.
Strong preference for quality. Prefer showa or kohaku.
Ive always thought these things would work better if people had an incentive to post updates even if you get one that fizzles.
Consider: Pay an extra 10%. This is held by the WWKC (i'm not a member but maybe they'd do this since the growout is on this site). You get 20% (of the 10% sum) back each year that you post at least 2 updated photos for 5 years. Any $ left over gets raffled off among those who made all the posts.

Maybe 5 years is a bit much, but you get the general idea. Total time could be a year, 18 mos, 2 yrs etc...

Maybe we can go ahead with the variety and pricing polls and run them concurrently...
I don't see how that outcome here would effect the other polls.

And then I get to track down some dealers

I did one on Price. I think what you can do is go on the price and location and come back with quality and breed info based on the majority limit.
