RedNecks R Us
You disclosed my secret Sue! I do need room, but I can always use more room. I want to offer KP great buys and will be posting offers soon.
Your great mother fish!:-)
Been working all day on plants, getting things ready for the cold spell to becoming next week. It rained almost all day, but during the two hour break from the rainI worked outside. During the rain I worked in the greenhouse. found a cup full of Rhonda Kay corms that had so many corms they were sitting on top of the cup like an icecream cone. Took the top ones off and left just a few to grow on out since they were already starting to sprout. Bagged the rest to store for a while. Rhonda Kay is a beautiful tropical lily! I will be able to offer them at a great price this year.
I have been trying to decide how I want to do the KP specials. Any ideas?
Today it was a high of 32* outside but was 71* in the greenhouse. When we first built the greenhouse in 2000, we were taught the importance of putting double layers of plastic on the top with blowers blowing air in between the layers to create an insulation buffer to help keep the gh warmer ion the winter. When the storm blew the top off, we only were able to get one layer back on. Since then the weather has not co-operated to get the second layer on, but we do have the first layer on and repaired. Thinking of how a second layer helped hold heat, I thought since I could not get a second layer on the roof now, maybe a cover over the ponds would help absorb the heat from the sun and keep the water warmer. So today, the plants were tucked into bed with 6 mil covers. , not green house plastic. Don't know if it will help, but we shall see. The plastic said it was clear, transparent but it looks white. You have to put it up against something to see through it. Oh well. Maybe a decent weather day in the future will give us a chance to put the second layer on the roof as well!

I use 6 mil plastic from Lowes. On the box it states that it is clear. It looks white like what you have. It does let a lot of sunlight into my pond. I used to have a camera under the plastic and it is very bright under there during the day. Looks like your ponds will be warmer tonight.
I think that should work great!
Did the second layer stay on well while it was inflated?
FIT BMX, yes, the second layer stayed on great. It was nailed on around the edges just like the first layer. We bought two layered plastic once, but the place quit carrying it. It was just double plastic on a roll, similar to toilet paper. It did not work any better than putting two separate single layers, but was less time to put on. With single layers,we put on firstlayer and nailed it, then put on second layer and nailed it, so was twice the labor.
Look what has started to open today! It may not open all of the way, but at least it is trying, which is better than wilting as a bud. Its a sign!! Spring is not that far away!!

We had cold tempos outside Thursday night, and the rain that fell turned to freezing rain and ice. At noon Friday it was 26* outside, but was 55* in the gh. Since the coals in wood stoves were still hot, I kept a small fire in them all day, to make it easier for burning larger fires tonight. I built the fires up again at 10 last night and it was still 52* in there. The pics show what it looked like outside today at noon, with the ice on the trees.
When the plastic came off of the gh house that dreadfully cold day in December , these little beauties got nipped by the cold and wind. They are starting to look much better and will be ready come spring!
Some of the lilies are starting to react to the longer days, and warmer water. These pads are as big as 7"!
How warm is the gh? Well, the outside high today was 47*, but the gh high was 80*. The pic was taken at 4 pm as the sun was going down. Sunshine instead of rain or overcast skies makes a big difference!
I am glad to see everything doing well!
Frank a couple of questions, when do you start
selling your Lotus? Also is it time to divide my water
iris.Thank-you Frank,starting to get Spring fever LOL~~
Lilybell, I will most likely start to divide the lotuses at the end of March this year, as they have are outside instead of in the green house this winter. I may divide a couple a little earlier for those in warmer climates. Depending upon the weather, that is the plan. I will be selling them as they are divided.
You can divide the irises at any time but it is best to divide them in the fall or right after they bloom in the spring.
I think spring fever is hitting a lot of us, or cabin fever.
