Looking forward to seeing this girl in person for the first time at the Louisville show this year. I hope she is still under 24 inches to compete in size 4. Part of me hopes she is and part of me hopes she has grown more for a future fish. She will be going in the mud for at least two years before I consider bringing her home. About 3 more months,,,,its going to be a long wait. Thought I would bump the thread to see if anyone else had any comments.

Do you have any up-to-date pic. Of her? Would love to see how she transform in the mud pond.

I purchased her a in october while she was in Japan. She has stayed there this winter but is not in the mud. She will be delivered to koi acres and then brought to me at the Louisville show. She was over 23 inches as a nisai when I purchased her. I doubt she will be fed much over the winter.

      Nice sanke
Beni quality is good, she has a straight hi, but the sumi makes it interesting. And the sumi is jet black. Looking forward the future, keep updating.

Updated pics of her coming out of the mud. Measuring tubs must have been different on the scale. When I got her, If i remember correctly, she was about 22.75 in Louisville. She spent the summer in a mud pond and came out at 25.5 inches. Still very impressed by the quality and happy that the sumi star is still there.

Thanks for the comment. Comparing these two fish isnt really fair tho. The showa is no where near the fish that the sanke is. As far as TODAY, not future, I think the body shape on the showa is much better. Side by side the sanke is very skinny compared to the showa. But 2 years down the road, that wont be the case.

Comparisons like that don't work for this. The Sanke has had, and will always have, a better body line than the Showa.

      Russ,

By body line are you meaning confirmation?

Yes, and even though they develop differently it really is always the same for either. A Koi with a bad body line, like the Showa, will not develop better or be better at any given moment just because it is further along. Sanke, which are typically more streamlined, can also have bad body lines but, if they are good when they are small, it will continue to be good as it gets bigger.

No critics of this sanke as sansai? I had a couple when I first bought her as nisai last year. Has she improved? Gone down hill? Stayed the same? What quality is the beni? Sumi? Any takers?

Well she is coming along nicely and really don't see any problems. Looks like the beni has improved. Sumi looks the same. Shiroji looking good. Skin quality holding up.Overall I would say she has improved. Would like to see just a little more size in the shoulder area though. Time well probably take care of that. Well be nice to see her at yonsai.

      Coming from a beginner.

I like the body conformation and the thick rich beni of this sanke. The body looks to have actually improved compared to the first pic. It looks more streamlined and the bodyline looks more even now. It will look real nice when it's large (30"). I hope the sumi gets darker as it's a little brown/shadowy to me. Otherwise, a very nice fish to watch grow. I am looking forward to more updates in the future.

Your Sanke is doing really well. I like this type of body line on a younger fish. The size/shape of the head/shoulder area bodes well for continued growth. The conformation is very good, but what also stands out in the close-ups is the developing fukurin. The skin quality appears to be very good and that the fukurin is the most telling element of it. I have a hunch that at 6-7 yrs old, this one will, with the right environment, hit the over 32" size to be categorized as "jumbo". Look forward to more progression pics over the next few years on this one.
      Mike
