      4" Valve

It is hard to fathom the size of a 4" single union ball valve...that is until you see one for yourself. I am no small man...this thing is a behemoth!!! And I don't have the other piece on that goes with it!!!

      See for yourself...

      BTW - $100.00 each!!!

Wow thats huge , I know they are big and sometimes very hard to operate. I presonally prefer knife valves that large but recently I am finding out how easily they can leak.

This particular one operated fairly easily...with my new system going in I should never have to use them again. Just putting them in...just in case!!!

Knife valves leaking? All 4 of mine leak...no more now for me...they're gone!!!

      Mine's bigger..

I mean my double union 4" ball valve. I bough an Asashi (sp) brand and can still turn it with one hand after 3 years in service.

While all my knife valves on my old water garden started to leak after a number of years in serfice, bought a 4" SS Valera Knife that leaked a bunch from day one. On the re-build, I went exclusively with ball valves, even for just on/off flow control. Have pretty much switch the indoor overwintering tank to ball valves also.

If you're patient, you can still find decent EBAY deals on 4" TU balls.

Ok cool, I have two 4" Legend ball valves that have been in service since 06 that I can still open and close with one hand. These are on my bottom drain and moving bed filter so they get used at least twice a week. No leaks so far

What kind of legend ball valves do you have? Are they the 2 piece ez turn valves or what they call compact valve. Here is a link to a page that shows both.

I would stay away from ball valves with out a union like this one. They will over time get tight, hard to work, and eventually break.

I assume that's because it's designed to be glued in place and makes it difficult to swap out? Could you fernco this style of valveit in place, or would there be too much torque on the valve for the fernco fittings to hold appropriately.

Why is the gray valve less expensive than the same valve in white?

Got my 4"ers in yesterday. They were a bear to get tightened so they wouldn't leak - I am not one who has many tools...much less something THAT big. Ended up using a flathead screw driver and a hammer...worked like a charm!

As I was puiing filters out it was amazing just how much the knife valves leak!!!
