      Cooling a trout pond

      Hi

New to the site and wondering the most efficient way to keep a pond below trout temperatures. Around 50-55 F. I believe the pond will be around 10,000 gallons.

      Thanks

A chiller is the only way I know of for a closed pond system, or a constant flow through if your source water is cold enough.

      Move north.......

Actually, using a lot of showers will generally help cool it significantly, at least down to the dew point, if my memory serves, and I have my physics right. That being said, as far as summers go, depending on where in NJ, without flow through, i think you are looking at an expensive proposition.....

The only way you could effeciently do it on that size of a pond in a fairly warm climate would be via flow through withwell water. Doing it artificially via a chiller would be cost prohibative. I think that's the concept most trout hatcheries work on...cold source water.
