I have no idea what kind they are

I have had them for about 3 months now but I'll be honest, I bought these two babies from Walmart. They were the only long tailed koi in the tank so after watching them for 20 minutes I bought them. Well I realized I have no idea what kind they really are after watching the show Tanked where they did a huge koi pond and none of them looked like my two babies. Well I just took the best pictures I could of them in hopes someone can help me out. I named the gold one Disaster and the silver one Tranquility.

      Greetings,
The "silver" one appears to me as a metallic Sorogoi?
The "gold" one would be a poor example of Hi Utsuri?
IMHO both are pond grade at best. I know Walmart had
some decent koi at one time, but they have really went down-hill in the last 5 years.
They are always loaded with parasites, so be very careful and always use proper q-tank protocals.
      Regards, John.

Alright, I plan on putting them in a small garden pond next spring. I love the longer tails and fins than regular koi it's just more beautiful to watch swim around. I plan on getting more but only in solid colors which is seeming harder and harder to find. But thank you both I love them no matter what they are or what quality to me they are gorgeous.

I like them too. Keep in mind that they will get big so make sure the garden pond is a few hundred gallons at least and well filtered. Hopefully they are currently in a large aquarium?

I love the tail and dorsal fin on the first one. They will be very pretty in the pond.

They are both about 3 inches long in a long 40 gallon aquarium. Right as we speak I am setting up 4 75 gallon tanks for a couple more koi. The pond we planned on will be around 450 gallons. Would that be big enough for about 6-10 koi? Or too big? Also with my brother living with me he wants to release his two small map turtles into it, would it be safe?

I would stick to a couple koi myself. The rule of thumb I've found is 250 gallons per koi. I don't know anything about Map turtles so maybe someone else can chime in here.

I have about that many koi in my 680g pool for the winter and am doing daily water changes, none are full sized and they're getting an upgrade to 4,000g in the spring...I would try for a bigger pond and if you can't, put some massive filtration on it. The turtle thing is iffy...I don't know how aggressive map turtles are but my red eared slider took a chunk out of a goldfish before I rehomed him.

I would not try to keep koi in a 450 gallon pond. It can be done, but it is a lot of work to keep up the water quality in a pond that small, and if you have a power failure, you risk losing all of your fish. There is just no room for error.

As other have said, the rule of thumb is 250 gallons per koi. Also, a koi pond should have a minimum depth of 4 feet. I think that 8 to 10 goldfish would look much better in a 450 gallon pond than 2 koi would. I am partial to the multi-colored Shubunkin, but if you prefer solid colors, comets have long flowing fins and are a solid color.

Map Turtles are smaller than Red Eared Sliders, but Map Turtles are highly carniverous. They normally eat crayfish, snails, insects, and worms, but they are excellent swimmers and will take a chunk out of a fish if they get the chance. Since the recommend depth for koi ponds is 4 feet or greater, and the recommended depth for a map turtle pond is 10 to 30 inches, that would be another reason not to try to keep a map turtle with koi.
