      Where to purchase bentonite?

Hello everyone! I just picked up a new hobby of redeveloping my pond. I just purchased my home and I inherited a pond that has a lot of algie and It will not hold water. I was told that my pond may have a leak and was informed that I need to get some bentonite. But every place I go, nobody ever heard of it. So can someone help me out by letting me know where to purchase some? Thanks in advance!

Hey icu2! The pond is about 40 wide by 4 feet deep (well before the drought). I am not sure what the original "shell" is made of. I think it was just packed dirt, because I was digging up some cattails from the parts that dried up and the dirt was pretty soft.

The hardware store by me can order it from his concrete supplier, so you may try that.

Try agriculture or irrigation places along with well drillers or diggers, I would stay away from hardware stores as the price could be higher there.

I can get it in the 50# bags, Texas Sodium Bentonite. You should be able to get a couple of the price breaks, thinking you will be needing several pallets of it. One thing to consider, if you have any well diggers around you. When they seal a well they use the bentonite and a by product of this is bentonite filled water, they need to dispose of it and if you are not to far, they will "dispose" of it in your pond, 2000G at a time from their tanker trucks. Just a thought.
