      Unusual pump question

So I purchased my home 3 years ago and it came with a koi pond. Sounds awesome. Unfortunately the more time I spend here the more I realize I have a frankenpond. The former owner was a handyman and he built the pond himself. The pond works fine but is nothing like your ponds. It has tons, literally, of rocks and boulders in the pond.

I looked at the pump today and saw its a Monarch BSE 100lp pump. I have no idea what that would have been used for. One day i will be asking for help to construct a proper pond.

Its basically a utility pump for filling containers/tanks. Its similar to a high head pump. It was probably just something he could get cheap.

Thanks. He said he bought a big pump because he ran the water uphill to pour down a waterfall. It goes uphill about 10-12 ft.

Send a picture, we would love to see it. As for the pump, he had the right concept at least. There are a lot more energy efficient pumps out there should you end up switching things out.

Sure. I'll probably start the waterfall tomorrow so I'll start a thread and post a picture.

Here you go Jim. It's not pretty right now. Still have cleaning to do. I also broke a rock ledge earlier this winter so water is not directed exactly where it was before.

It at least looks decent for now with the falls and will give you some time to read on the site and see all you can do to it when its time to update/upgrade.
