A while back there were some threads on Asellus but I have seen
nothing in a long time. It seems like a great way to deal with detritus
and organic waste and decrease maintenance. Anyone have any new
suggestions or information?
Thanks

A while back I was looking into purchasing some of these for my pond but I never did. However, my pond is maturing and somehow they have found their way into my upper pond. I have seen them usually under either leaves or rocks in the early spring. I imagine there must be thousands of them in my filter. In a few weeks I am going to redo my filter, I will try to take some pics. the koi love to eat them!!!
Wanna send a few hundred to phoenix in a bell jar?
Water pill bugs, huh? Interesting. Never heard of them before now.

Look it up- not much on the internet except in some French site which was translated and posted here about 2 years ago. They sound like the panacea for all Koi ponds!
I was out moving some of my Lotus this morning and I did not see any of them.....I redid my waterfall in February and they seemed to be everywhere.. When I do the filter I am thinking there should be thousands of them....BTW I don't think a bell jar will ship well!!!
notice any difference in the water quality?
My pond overall is in good shape....It needs some major tweaks...Poor filter design and my upper pond seconds as a settling pond. I believe that why the Asellus are there. Lots of food available for them....However, whatever that are eating should be getting caught in the filter. Are they the magic answer to what ails your pond? My guess is no but I like the natural way of utilizing the food source. My koi eat them like jelly beans when I throw them in the pond.
Well if you find more, please let me know, I would love to "seed" my filters, especially my SC with them. Last I checked there's no harm from a biological that eats detritus!
