I am surprised more koi people dont use controllers. Very neat gizmo. My dream tank too, why I'm making sure every last detail is perfect. Making it to last 20+ years with minimal work and headaches.

Rbarn....have you decided on whether you are going to do discus or not yet....??that is a very nice setup you have going there...I would be willing to send you a batch of Lake Tanganyikan cichlids...we have a healthy population of Red Moliro Tropheus Moori and some Zaire and Gombi Julidochromis Transcriptus I would just give to you...because I am REALLY impressed with your setup, if you pay shipping....I am harvesting a friend's tanks for the second time since I stocked them 3 years ago and will have 3-4 dozen combined of both species, juveniles and sub-adults....good luck with your tank and pm me if this offer interests you....Billy

Great thread! I didn't notice the date at first and thought, "he should go with leds instead".

I'm bookmarking this thread. This is very similar to what I have in mind when I replace my 215 in my living room, except it'll be a reef tank.

    Looking forward to updates!

Very glad I went with the LED lights. They were uber expensive but in the picture below with them dimmed down to freshwater plant level they are using all of 1.3 amps total.
With the lights all on at 100% with enough light for corrals it was only using 3.2 amps total for the lights.

I've been toying with hardscape ideas lately and trying to get the ventilation system finished to pump all the excess humidity out of the house.
Shooting for a quasi-amazon-biotope that looks like tree branches drooping down into the water.

A light trap box I made to sit on top of the bookcase and blow air into the canopy. Didnt want a lot of light shooting up out of the top ventilation holes. I think this will work well.

Never was happy with the plumbing. Ripped it all out and re-doing in Schd 80 pressure fittings. Got the 5" vent duct run through the walls now as well.

    Great plumbing job!

On one hand, I'm very impressed with your patience and attention to detail.

On the other hand, I want to see the finished product...Hurry Up! lol

Just wait till you see the ridiculous filtration system I'm about to start on. I'm pretty close to being done now.

Shouldnt be a problem. I think the constant flow of air will keep humidity from ever getting too high. If anything it would sweat on the inside too, not the outside.

    making some progress ................

Picked up my custom storage tank. 36X24X24 with completely removable top for easy cleaning. 85 gallon (twice weekly 25% water changes)

Making progress on the pump room cabinets

Industrial grade bulkheads for the tank

Got the silencer in for the venting system. It was really loud without it. Silencer reduced noise by 90+%. DRAMATICALLY reduced noise levels.

Purflow canister filter. Will be filled with 6" of 10 ppi filter foam and a single layer of blue filter floss.
there will be 2 of these plumbed in parallel and will act as the mechanical prefilter for the closed loop circuit for the Bio/UV/Chiller

2x high Purflo 25 micron cartridge filter. There will be 2 of these run in parallel on their own closed loop circuit using a high pressure PanWorld 200 pump

Yes, that literally was the plan. 300 gallons and so clean you could drink it if you want to.

160 watts of UV sterilizers will be the final touch.
