In the keeper tub make sure you are not confusing secondary Hi or Hi breaking apart as Kanoko.

Not saying GOOD kanoko, but i believe it is still developing.

The last pic has been used as an example of the kanoko pattern, but is not my koi.
Compare the Kanoko koi photo to your koi, Max. Study the orientation, and atmosphere, of the Hi over the body and in particular how it sits within individual scales.

Imho, I would say that it is secondary Hi development as opposed to Kanoko.

Bindi, when i got this fish in 2007 or so, it was about 15-18". It was from japan, and it had been living in mud in upstate new york. It only started developing the yellow scales in 2010 approx. does that fit with your theory? If so, what is your prediction for how it's going to finish?

      I find it exciting!
I prefer the wagoi version but the Doitsu siblings would also be used to try and develop a different variety.
Super Kindai posted a photo of a "Only One" a Midori Goromo here https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showth...82#post1744582
Imagine if you could further develop, and stabilise, the green pattern as a full dorsal orientated pattern on a totally shiro base along the lines of Kohaku?
It just opens up new possibilities.

Uh-huh. i think i see. gee, I wish I could give that fish to you, bindi. I could not WAIT to get that fish out of my pond. LOL. But, I would love to see what you would do with him and his spawn. I don't think i'm going to live long enough to scale the learning curve. I'm going to have to just make do with the learning foothills.

Imo, yes. It's not unusual for Shiro Muji to develop secondary Hi as they age.
Most people don't keep them long enough to see any further development.
Secondary Hi (Ki is a dilute of Hi) is usually genetic and can be triggered by colour food and green water conditions. Mud ponds are an ideal environment for its development because of the additional colour food sources found in algae and invertebrates. Any koi predisposed to it will develop it in the right conditions.

I predict that it will remain generally same. It may develop more as time goes on but it will never consolidate to become true Kanoko.

Max, too many irons in the fire is never a good thing. You have your hands full doing what you are doing successfully already. I'd have them in a heart beat as they stirred my artistic imagination and interest but some things are not meant to be I guess. Hopefully wherever they end up someone with the space and time sees potential and starts their own journey.

Very interesting, Bindi. And thank you!!! for sharing your thoughts on this and the other fish in this bouillabaisse. Looking forward to seeing what the fish formerly known as "Coconut" does by this time next year.
