      My turtle eggs are hatching!

My baby painted turtle eggs have hatched. There were eight eggs and only one still needs to hatch. They started on Aug. 15. I have four living outside in the turtle pond, there were six but two magically excaped I have two in a 55 gallon aquarium in the house and these little ones will soon join them. Now i need to find a nice large plastic pond for the outside turtles when I bring them into the house.

      Wow! Ahhmazing!

I assume you have momma & daddy? Doesn't momma bury her eggs in sand? Do you then dig them up to keep them safe? I need some turtle egg education if you wouldn't mind.

The mama turtle buries her eggs in dirt. Then if you are going to bring them inside you must pick them up carefully without turning them in any way and put them in a container with dirt. The soil must stay moist. This is the second set I've hatched and it takes about 80 days for them to hatch. But the book says anywhere from 48-110 days.

Sounds like a delicate operation to move them.

It takes them a couple of weeks to get a good appetite. I am feeding them tiny shrimp and bloodworms.
