Unhappy My fish is dying , plz help (pics attached)

      Hi all,
Im newbie and just got this koi 3 weeks ago. I noticed that he was not as fast as the other fish. Today I found him weakly hanging on the surface with head down and tail up. He also stops eating. When I net him, he was trying to escape and jump though. I found one infected spot on the left gill cover. It looks like acne. There may be some white spots around his head. I ve been reading around koi desease articles in the last couple hours, but I get lost now. Please someone guide me through this step by step. I feel heartbreak watching him floating in pond now .. Now I dont know where to start. Please save him before its too late...
      Thanks in advance

PS: My pond is new, it s about > 2000 gallons. I think the nitrite cycle is not working properly yet, and the eco system is not balanced. The UV light just broke and green algae took over the pond. So I have to put up a 50% shade to reduce direct sunlight.

Well, I see a notch in the nose as well as the spot you indicate. The notch is often associated with costia, a nasty parasite, among other things. If you could scrape and scope for parasites, that would be great. But I doubt you can. So put this fish in a large rubbermaid tote and treat with ProFormC or Quick Cure. Don't feed and be prepared to change out 20/30 percent of the water every day or use an ammonia binder. Best to just do water changes to deal with ammonia while treating.

If you added this fish to your pond without putting in a QT first, you might have a problem with the rest of the pond.

@Noashnana, sry I dont have water parameters yet, ill trying to get a test kit later
@Joey: I did not QT this fish. I got it with around 10 others at a local koi dealer. They were all in the same tank. Then I got home and put them in my new pond, which had no Koi yet. The rest is still ok now I hope. Im not sure if my local koi shop open tomorrow Sunday. So can I put this fish in salt water?

A very saturated solution of salt water will strip the slime coat off, taking many parasites with it, but it leaves the fish without the slime coat that is the protective layer between the parasites in the pond and the fish. I agree with Joey, that without a scrape and scope, treatment with Proform C or another formalin/malachite green treatment would be high on my list. The small wound can be treated with iodine and just keep an eye on it.

With the fish getting to the point of slowing down, I would do the treatments as soon as possible.

I would NOT put in salt water. So many parasites are resistant to salt AND more importantly, you don't want salt in the pond when treating with ProFormC or Quick Cure.

Do me a favor and look under the gill plate at the gills. Even if you have costia which can be in the gills, the gills should be meat red with no white blotches. Also, use latex gloves when handling your fish. The gloves will not remove the slim coat - good for the fish - and some things the fish get can be problematic for us humans. You can get the gloves at big box stores in the paint dept.

So that fish is gone I open the gill and take a look. It s still red/ pinky. There is no white spot on the gill.
Now my other fish show sign of illness. I found something like this floating around the pond. They look like jelly, white ,transparent .. has anyone seen this?
I dont have a microscope to look at it.

I just can't tell from the pic but it could be feces. I had a fish a couple of years ago that would pass waste like that. It was almost waxy.

Have you begun treating your remaining fish?

Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn
