Anybody spawn Showa? I spawned Showa, yamabuki, ochiba, kohaku all at the same time in 4 show tanks, it seems like my Showa spawn had the largest hatch rate than the others, now after only being 7days old I am having a crap load of Showa fry dying, I do my water changes the exact aame to all tanks as well as feeding regimen, water peramiters are all good. Any ideas?
      Thanks
      Ben

Hard to tell Ben. Is the water the same color in all of the tanks and do they get the same amount of sunlight?

the tank in question gets a little bit more sun than the other three, there's a tree that shades but that tank gets the most sun, however I have 50percent shade cloth covering all tanks, some went very brown/pink then to green, and then the cycle started again with the tanks. I took the Showa fry and the yamabuki fry to the mud ponds today, fingers crossed that they make out better

OK thanks. The reason that I asked was that a tank getting more sun would possibly produce wider water temperature and pH swings.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that this spawn seemed to have the largest hatch rate, and also Showa are supposedly notorious for major flaws, not sure but that's the theory I'm going with

      HI Ben,
I had Showa spawn last year.If it was a large spawn maybe the water quality went off.
I siphoned a number of eggs off before they hatched.
Keep a good eye on your water testss and cull whenever you can.
With Showa you can get rid of all the white ones very soon.

Thanks everyone, despite all of the floaters I was still able to move thousands and thousands of koi to the mud pond today, I will post pics when the next culling is due, probably 30-40 days from now

I bet your fry will be growing a lot quicker than my little guys. No bloodworms for these little blokes, all they get is what they can find in the plants and algae in the pond. Going to make it a real challenge for me to get pics of them to see how they're growing too, ha, ha. Yours are really fat little fry, ha, ha. No wonder with all those bloodworms. You should try tossing some bloodworms in with the food for the big fish once in a while and see the feeding frenzy that will happen, those little worms are a real delicacy with most fish.
