Stephen, on your flow thru system what would be your best guess on turn over rate when your fish are big enough not to get sucked through a strainer? thanks
What I did was place a garden hose in the bottom of the tank and siphon water out 24/7 and adjust the inflow of fresh water(from the top) to maintain the water level. Not exactly sure but 1000's a gallons a day. The new water went thru a carbon filter before entering the pond, so no dechlor was needed.
I was hoping to mimic your system but with 1000's of gallons a day I can't do it. Water is fairly cheap here (city water) but its the sewer bill that kills it. I wouldn't mind if I had some quality fry but these things are blah. I only got 2" of growth last year. I just couldn't keep the ammonia down so had to cut back on the feed.
Are you raising any fry this season?
Do you still breed Steve?
Use a much smaller hose to adjust your water usage or use filtration.
I have brushes in but I think they spawned in March this year before I put the brushes in. Did have eggs 4/25 but only a few fry from it. I am not planning on culling any but just want to raise a few to supply color to our new mud pond. The osprey got most of the last ones we put in.
Oh too bad.. Thanks for this greatthread anyway..

Thanks for posting Stephen. You had some really sharp looking little ones from that gosanke spawn (posts 752 and 755) ... and amazing landscapes too.
