      koi sterile

hello i have several koi between 14-18 inches about 5 to 6 years old and the males dont get breeding tubrecles and the goldfish do even in the same water conditions they dont show any sign of breeding behavior they were bought small as A grade fish and i am wondering can they be made sterile through chemical?
i am also wondering if there are any tricks to trigger spawning.

My koi in one of my ponds rarely spawn, unless I take them and put then in a more shallow spawning pool.

Now the sarassa comets in the same spawn every summer and the koi eat all the eggs. Usually have no survivors.

My koi will go 2 or 3 years between spawns, which suits me just fine. The spawns have usually occured during full moons, usually April and May. To really trigger a spawn, put in something like hyacinths.

A large water change or temperature change can help bring on a spawn.

yes i know these tricks i currently have fish in an intex pool and i ran a 20 % water change today to see if they will spawn all im sayin is that they never develop breeding tubrecles and they never chase each other and i was talking to a dealer once who stated that koi can be fed food with chemicals to make them sterile is there any truth in this?

Are you sure you have males and females? I couldn't see any reason why anyone would feed koi with food that would make them sterile. It doesn't exist commercially at this time. Sure there's people working on it, but nothing that would be available to some random guy breeding/selling koi. Most sterile fish are triploids created genetically in a lab (even they aren't always 100% sterile either) for aquaculture or vegetation control programs.

Crush up some viagra and mix it with their food and feed before a full moon. If the koi are still going at after about four hours post in the emergency forum.

Disclaimer-If you try this I am not responsible for any reactions to the pills ahahahahahahaha

Ah, you never mentioned that part. Israeli koi change the game. From what I understand they're doing some interesting work with KHV 'immunizations'. I wouldn't be surprised if their fish are in fact sterilized at some point, either surgically or via some other means (genetic manipulation, etc). Too bad if they're nice fish.

Yeah, I don't see any other reason other than that. Quite unfortunate if you're looking to breed, but at the same time it could be seen as a benefit to anyone NOT wanting to breed in that you'd have less issues in a mixed M/F pond (which in all reality is a much larger percentage of koi keepers than those wanting to breed them). Any idea as to which farm they're from?
