      Asagi - scalation and recovery

      Hi guys,

I just got 2 new tosai asagis, just arrived from mud pond.
Anyway long story, some scale are missing near tail due to transport. Not to severe though, you can see the 2nd layer skin still there.

Just wondering will my asagis recover the scale? Any Input will be appreciated

      Asagi A

      Asagi B

I think the general rule is if they are Nisai or you get there is s good chance the scales will come back

There is always a question about this and IF they will and if/when they do, will they look the same as they originally did. The answer is yes/no. It does appear however, that the second one seems to have a bigger problem. The head appears crooked as is evidenced by the gill plates. Notice the left one is open while the right one is closed. They should both be opening/closing in unison.

I have a gin run matsuba that was injured by fishing line that hooked behind her gills. She had a huge scar across her back (very much like a collar around her neck where the scales were ripped off, and a bit dug into the skin). This scar was visible for 2 to 3 years and then it wasn't. So I say that yes they do heal and it can look normal. She looks identical to when I first got her. Now this may be a fluke, but it was my experience with a traumatic injury. I also have a Ochiba that had a small chunk of skin ripped on its face, it healed naturally and you can't even tell there was an injury there.

This is aside from what Mike says is wrong with the head/gills of your Asagi. I would keep an eye on it to see if the gills are moving in unison; it may just be a facet of the way the picture was taken.

      Thanks for the feedback guys!

In term of scale, i'd better pray *finger crossed*

About the head thing, i've just notice about it that's one thing I will never notice if no one tell me.
I'll write it in my head for now.

Will check it once I got home, hopefully it's just the camera.

      In term of health,
If the head is crooked like koiman says, will it affect its life?

Hi, i've just checked the asagi, turns out it's the camera *thanks god!*

Anyway just food for thought, what happened when they have crooked head? Will it affects its survivability?

It's really rare here to find good tosai asagi, they normally expensive or sold already, got them for 35$ each!!

So I'm really happy about them as the scalation is perfect for me

      Hopefully the scale will heal
