I feel like I can deal with the Gators, Snakes, Osprey, Herons, Egrets, Turtles, etc but these otters **** me off.
I look forward to seeing what kind of otter deterrent you come up with. They are smart, strong and agile. Work fast before they bring the cousins.

Traps might work. An otter hunt is faster, but may be illegal. But need to get rid of them for sure

Ouch. Our fellow ponder out here had an otter raid a few years back. Got 'em all (otters got ALL the koi). I live fairly close although up on top of the hill. He's down closer to the lake and slough.
Then, last fall, as I was driving to work, I saw a couple otters slink across the road. My heart sank! Then I did the math: I'm about 6 miles from the house down by the lake. They aren't coming up to my pond when they live right here in the swamp next to the lake.
But still, after hearing of David's devastation and now seeing their pictures with a mouthfull...
Yuck. I hope I never see one up my way, that's for sure.
Bad situation bro. I know you don't like to hurt critters but I also know you love your koi.
Can't Mary just have a talk with them? I got nothin.

Stephen, Please tell Cleo to be very wary of those critters. When we were very young DB, DS and I used to go down to the creek and chase the otters. Especially when the creek would get very low. Probably an old wives tale or maybe daddy was just trying to scare us. But he used to tell us they could "turn around in their skin and bite anywhere you touched them." LOL And they do have big sharp teeth. I fear lots of predators, but Otters would be my "druther". I druther have any other critter than an otter.

Lord when you build my cabin in the corner of Glory-Land, Please be sure to include a fish pond. Thanks

Very Beautiful and very deadly to fish. Yeah you have got them a place to feed and they dont have to work very hard for it. Probably lots more fish in the ponds than they are used to seeing, good luck on getting rid of them. You are going to have your hands full keeping hungry animals out of them ponds.
I just read online where an Otter in Florida dragged a dog in the river and drowned it.
I love a good red.

So very sorry. Lost all ours while we were moving from WA to OR, put them in a friends huge natural pond. Otter visited took all our 17 fish and our friends also.

Sorry to hear that Stephan. Otters are relentless. You may as well having a neon sign that flashes "EAT AT STEVE'S"! Once they find a free meal, they will be back, and maybe with relatives. Contact your local fish and game dept. If they can't do anything , maybe a private trapper dependent upon state regs.
