Ahah, started on a new position, bare root, this lotus has steadily chugged 20 pads, several runners and its first bloom. Mental note: look up its name, hah!

A close runner up to wossisname lotus, is one of those pesky seedling plants, Juwahle pencilled in for the time being.

How dare a seedling plant pollute my ponds!

Though, I must confess some varieties are worthy of being picked as fav of the day, but, methinks they might do better blooms when Summer cools off...

Absolutely gorgeous! Did you find out the name of that pink lotus yet?

Off the top of a wobbly brain particle perched precarious on top of crumbley spine, ummmm Ben Bibson or Momo Botan.

Now the blooms are showing and the probability of good tubers forming is good I can double check for sure kindasorta one of the long nights

Todays excelling more than all the others performance just has to be the peachy hardies. I hear tell tale that tropical waterlilies bloom better than hardies. Georgia Peach for sure thrives in excessive heat

Hah, I doubt Nymphaea Bagdad is genetically equipped to cope with life outdoors in the Carolinas.

Some summers it will turn to mush in hot sun and bounce back from what remnant tuber survived, this year it has tentatively chugged out pads and buds and.... stalled.

With shorter days on the turn and a midday shaded position it made it through high nineties waters reasonably intact.

The first bloom does not look too happy about it. Will have to find an even cooler, shadier spot next Summer

What is vaguely useful about this first bloom, is to sample the colour balance, compare it to a film photo version and be able to accurately measure the ultra violet light colour shift, then go back and accurately colour correct film scans... Should the long winter nights be such that cabin crazy has the inclination

Todays hot sun and nineties waters were not much to Bagdads liking.

I had a bit of a saga trying the light blue tropical waterlilies, it seems there are several real nice crystal blues to be found, Bob Trickett, Marmorata, Pamela, Blue Beauty many of which bloom a notch better than most other tropical waterlilies and stand up well to the worst heat and sun

Star of Zanzibar has a pleasant pair of pairs up, two positions to compare the first day bloom and a second or third day bloom

Well todays most captivating bloom just has to be that new light blue tropical seedling on its first bloom.

Its neater in the hot midday sun than all the others with the exception of Star of Zanzibar and Marmorata

Raising natural selections from seed is producing a generation of plants that can take the topsy turvy volatile climate better than the namby pamby named cultivars.

I particularly love the blues, Andy - of course, as usual, your pictures are outstanding! I want a light blue one some day when I can figure out where I'm going to put all the ones I want!

Now you know, you don't need pumps and bottom drains for a lilypond, or many lilyponds... All the time you might spend on twiddling with squishing water about can be skipped.

All you need to do is spy some dastardly swarth of grass and decide, a lilypond would be better there!

Then think of all those light blue tropical waterlilies that could be popping...

This first bloom is a miniature blue, with well variegated pads, a cross between Leopardess and Crystal might turn out to be a keeper.

Tina has been languishing bare root where its viviparous starts survived Winter in some tough corners through the worst heat, still it pops very neat if somewhat tintsy blooms.

How quick it is bouncing back to a better size in just a week now one plant is potted up and given a favourable position

Evelyn Randig popping a pleasant pair. Not bad for a tropical waterlily that is easy to find for ten bucks
