He's going to be a pretty baby.
How's the bamboo doing? Didn't you plant some to block the neighbors?

learning lots about bamboo. I dug it at the right time, but I lost about 1/3 new shoots to a fungus, kinda like damping off. I'd heard some people say they used cinammon to combat the fungus, but alas, I didn't heed their warnings. Two new shoots went 20+ feet tall, others barely over 6 feet, some not at all. But I'm hopeful!! This fall I'll dig some more and fill in the gaps. And treat in the spring for fungus!!!! :D

Dang even bamboo gets fungus? I didn't think you could kill that stuff.
Sue, my OG (Old Gold) had Carp Pox when I first got her. It was just a dot on her tail. As the weather warmed up, it was gone. She got it again the next year, but not since (4th year now). I never treated it. Is that Carp Pox your Koi has? I just didn't know it would spread like that.
I didn't take him out for a picture last night, I didn't want to stress him. He's doing much better, the pox is thinner all over, and I can see the scales underneath. But I don't think the temp is high enough. I was being careful not to cook him, but I think I might add another heater. I have one of those thermometer tapes that stick to the glass, which reads 85+, and a glass floating one that reads 81. Which one is more accurate?
Been raining here for days, can't dig my second pond yet. I'm ready to build an ark.

I'm not sure. I know my floating one - the glass shifted so I think I'd go with the stick on one.
Glad he's doing better.
Well, I think I did the poor guy in. Lesson learned: don't try treating a fish if the conditions aren't optimum. The water quality went down hill fast, and I'm sure it caused all kinds of other problems. That plus the stress of taking him out for photos...
When I took him out last night, some scales started coming off and his tail started bleeding. His condition loose much worse, red streaks in his fins (the nitrites were kept below .25 after that initial spike of over 2.0) Here are the last pictures I will take:

His tail poor tail...

He's looking better.
His pox looks much better, but just look at his tail!!!!!! And his scales came off in my hands, and he started bleeding behind his lower fins. I put iodine on his tail, and put him back in the pond. He was eating this morning and hanging with the herd, so he might survive. You can hardly notice the pox now.

He'll do fine. Do you have any salt in your pond?
No, no salt. I haven't added salt for over a year now, didn't need it. I hate to salt the whole pond, but I probably should. Do you keep your pond salted? You mentioned Liberty is banged up, would adding salt during and after spawning help your girls heal up?
CK from PreeBirt City
I try to keep it at about .1 - .3 kills my plants but .1 seems to help with their bumps and slime coat.
Unless the fish worsens I would not salt the pond. He is in good water now which is hopefully warm enough with friends (they get stressed being alone) I think you'd be surprised at how quickly he will heal now he is back in the pond.
Thank you for sharing the pics with us.
You were right Jackie, he's joined the pack and is happy and eating well. He always was a little shy, so I'll just leave him alone and see how he does.
And his pox looks much better! Hardly noticable now. I think the experiment would have worked if I'd have a better hospital tank and paid more attention.

glad he's better!
