      Elbagin

Does anyone one know to what extent this messes with a filter?
Does anyone use it and if so when? I am toying with using it on small ulcer in a QT.

I believe when shipping fish some dealers use it to relax the fish Can be used with salt at up to 1oz per gallon. Can be used as a dip at up to 20gm per 220 gallons.

      EDIT: DOSAGE RATE:

Mix 10 grams of Elbagin per ton of water if using in a treatment tank for bacterial or antiseptic treatments. It is highly recommended to use Elbagin with salt at the rate of 0.5% (5 kilos per ton of water ).The higher the pond temperature ie 68 to 75 degrees the more effective Elgabin becomes.
Do not reuse Elgabin mixtures more than the one occasion.

I have found all kinds of info on dosage for this med, but if I do the concentration for a dip, I can't find anywhere that says how long to leave them in it. I have 500 gallons set up and I want to dip ALL the fish.
I am adding 40 rams to 500 gallons, how long do I leave them in it please,

I used it many years ago, before it was readily available but I do not believe it was ever meant to be used as a "dip" .

In my case it was used to treat 3 koi with some pretty serious ulcers but only after all the injections and healing was starting.
They then were in a qt with it to dieter any more infection.
Problem (not really) was that being in the Elbajin tank for a few weeks I could not just start feeding as it also stopped the koi from digesting normal food. Had to start with barley in small quantities then mixed in some garlic and so on.

Long winded, yes, but it worked great over a 3 week time span. The only koi I ever sold was the one with the worst ulcer.
Great for shipping and post treatment but can not see it working as a dip.

OH, one more thing. It supposedly works best in a 6% salt level. Did here anyway and always have some on hand.

      Good luck

Jessie, I put new fish in 10g Elbagin per 100 gallons with .3+ salt and leave them there for as long as I QT. I don't think there's a time limit. You can use up to .6 salt but I've not done that. If I were in your shoes, I might go heavy on the salt.

Sounds good, so for now that is my plan, I am almost ready to start putting water in the new QT, then I will have to monitor ammonia as well. I have amquel.

She wants to use it as a "dip".
It's not a "dip" type of medication nor is it a ulcer stopper.

Use it with new koi, before shipping koi and after treating a koi but that is all.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it's purpose is to cure ... it is to keep the patient clean of unwanted pests (infections) after treatment. A clean room if you will. So clean that the whatevers in the koi digestion tract needs time to come back to normal.

It says its an antibiotic right on the package.
I did a scrap and scope. I found one dead fluke. I saw nothing else moving at all.
I did three days of proform-c and the one I scraped has been in elbagin for about 24 hours. I now have everything that I could find out of the pond. Most of them have fin rot. Mary thinks costia? but I couldn't find any. All I can do is assume I killed whatever needed killing and now I just need to keep them warm and clean until they heal or die.
I have lost more than half my fish already.
I am about to give up completely and fill this darn hole in

I've had great luck with it on bacterial issues.
Used it in the qt for a couple that shipped in with issues. I kept the heat around 78 last summer and the salt level at .6.

I may have a problem keeping it that warm, I have rearranged everything so I can keep them in elbagin treatment as long as I need to.
I can't keep my house at 78 right now.
We have been wet, cold, and miserable for weeks now. I think the fish in the rivers are drowning its been so wet.
I just have to figure out how much salt to put in 2 tons of water to get 6%. I should be able to do this, but right now I am so tired I feel like I have alzhiemers. I can't even remember where I left my phone or my glasses.
If I could find my house phone remote I could call my cell phone, but I can't find either one right now.
I am going to try and find a big enough aquarium heater to try to keep the pool somewhat warm so I can take the fish out of my bathtubs. Good thing I have 3 bathrooms.

Good luck Jessie. I think anything over 70 for the water is fine, I was just sharing what temp I had used it at.
I hope you get some of our sunshine. We've got our first truly sunny and warm day here since last year. We're over 80 today and yesterday was nasty. Maybe spring actually has arrived... fingers crossed.

Do you need a salt conversion? I can track down a link for you.

Thanks Marilyn, that was very helpful. I am just not up to math right now.
looks like I need 14 pounds in ~3000 gallons to get 6%. Good thing I sent DS to the feed store to get some before they closed, because I didn't have anywhere near that much.
