      DIY Window Box Trickle Tower

      Start with four of these:

Drill 100 holes in THREE of them and install a 2" shower drain in one that will become the bottom tray.
Cut 6- lengths of 3" pvc pipe about 4" long. This may vary depending on how deep your window boxes are. What they are used for is that a pair of them are placed on end in one tray and the tray above sits on them. This puts all the weight in the bottom and not on each tray. Less tippy. Partially fill the bottom three with 1 cu. ft. lava rock and put Matala or similar pads (we have quilt batting at the moment in the top tray. Feed water at the top and let it trickle down and out the shower drain.
Think I have about 35 bucks into it.

The cover is made from the companion tray made for the window boxes to sit on. Think it was $.99.

I've been wondering about just such a contraption, but worried that it would bow out in the middle. I guess not!

It won't bow in the middle because of the 3" pipe that each one is sitting on. It transfers the weight to the next one and so on to the bottom.
I have a 2400gph Pondmaster internal pump running it and have about a third of that going to the Easy Pod. It will easily handle the full flow of the pump, did it, so I may, once it has run awhile use the Easy Pod on a different pond and run the full 2400gph thru the TT. This deck-side 'pond' is 560 gallons and it is where our show goldies spend their summer.

Reminds me why Koiphen is so special, smart minds can take respected types of pond filters and DIY different but functional models often saving big bucks. This is great for any handy person.

For the cheap one I made for my quarantine, Troy, I have a pondmaster 1800 gph pump with that screen that has the foam built into it. I clean that off every other day, which is easy as pie, and I never have any build up on the bioballs.

Ethan , I also use the Pondmaster 1800 for my TT and the water must go through the Black/Gray Foam piece before getting to the Tower . My guess is Bruce has something like this for his DIY Project .

I'm just not a Fan of Lava Rock , Maybe Bruce can Buy some Bio Balls for Lari for a Birthday or Anniversary Gift . Just watch for Flying Objects for a couple days . lol

I'd rather use bioballs in a TT as well, but that's just me. I also wouldn;t mind ceramic media as it ages well, but that's pretty expensive and heavy stuff.

Once the quilt batting gets rid of the green water I'll switch the top tray back to the Matala I had in there to start. This is the first time Ive used lava rock in a filter,,,, thought I'd give it a try.... Im not impressed so far but we'll give it some more time.

Ethen wouldnt be such a big bio ball fan if he hadnt gotten such a deal on them.

btw: this is Bruce on Lari's laptop. We are in Ohio this weekend for her son's wedding.
