      Angry Man vs Pond

Well, I'm digging a big hole in my yard

I've gone through various designs and filtration plans.
The original design dubbed the "Manta Ray" was beautiful and lovely...but due to various factors we decided against going all out.

In the end, we decided to go with a rectangular pond.
      12' x 20' x 6' which I think is roughly 10K.
Similar filtration set up, although only one skimmer.

Depending on how the digging goes it may end up smaller.

      I guess we'll see....

In the sweltering heat of Georgia and it's impenetrable red clay I would say that this day goes to:

I feel for ya! Is there any way you can get one of those mini backhoes or something similar into your yard? I dug mine myself, shovel by shovel, but here in Oklahoma, we're at the mercy of the weather (it's raining right now, in fact), and it would have gone a lot faster had I rented some equipment.

      I'm stubborn
That was about an hour of work

Common sense should kick in soon.

      Rent an auger or rototiller

This will break up the ground easier so you can shovel it into a wheelbarrow.

By all means get some BOOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on space and $$$$, you could rent a walkbehind skidsteer(minibulldozer). I have seen them at a rental place now that I dug mine by hand. It would have been so much easier and faster( and probaly deeper).
While you are at it, if you don't have a place to dump what you dig, rent a bin.

OK maybe that pic was misleading a bit...

That was after I threw in the towel for the day. I was surveying the damage.

I was digging with shoes on. Promise

you are an idiot rain .

Sit in a corner and meditate looking at the perceived location of the pond .

Hire some illegal labor just before that .

Doesn't it help to moisten the soil? Looks a little dry in the pic... but I could be wrong. Look into Gorilla carts if you don't have a wheel barrow, I LOVE mine! Non-tipping, and they dump easy.... if you really have to do this all by hand...

If not, if you can rent something with more muscle, go back to your manta-ray design, that is very cool. Why did you change? Other than the by-hand digging, were there other reasons?
