OK, so here's the new additions for the Seattle pond. I made a concerted effort to NOT place pattern as top priority, but rather to go with body conformation, skin quality, balance, and above all, ability to learn from. After that, moyo as it applied to balance, and intrigue, then presentation in the koi complementing one another as a whole. 'Outgrowing' their pattern did not take precidence. I doubt any fish will achieve 30+ in. in my 10,000 gal. pond, with Seattle weather conditions. The Kohaku's Moyo was intriguing to me, though the sashi is not as crisp as I would have liked, I want to see how his hi will develop. I think if any, he is the one to overgrow his pattern. As for the Sanke, goal was for Tsubo Sumi, rather than Kasane Sumi. I realize these lack the powerful presence some others carry, but I like the luster of the skin, and am hoping for kage to come up well balanced. Next time round, I'll go for the power. If any Please feel free to comment honestly, and critically, as I can't learn if knowledge is hidden. So, off with the gloves & give it to me!

I had flagged both 13 and 24. I liked the body formation

I am still learning but I like 13. Seems like a nice body and when the sumi comes up it will have a nice pattern (for my taste anyways ).

Thanks. Yes, I think 13 will most likely have the nicest overall finish, and is the one to watch. As for S004, It's also the fist time that I've seen one available with a Hoshi step, so I'm crossing my fingers on that one as well.

ok, so i'm still not there.

As evidenced by 2 of my koi being more heavily influenced by pattern than I had originally thought. Below are pics of Hindu Lord Agni, God of Fire. Who could say no to a kohaku that comes equipped with flame, eh? Likewise with the Sanke with the star. Seems like they just go together. Fortunately, I STILL think they are great koi, and will learn alot from them. ...and i will try to exercise more restraint on the whole pattern thing.

      one down, three to go.

SO16 down. tail tube got caught up against the intake h2o suction of the QT plumbing, which was too strong for the fish to pull away from. I noticed an ulcer on one of the other 3.

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes with the remaining ones. You picked some lovely koi.
Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

I'll say something when I feel I have something worth saying. I'm not a fan of flapping my lips just because they are there.
