Hi Carol, I'll give you my two cents and that's about all it's worth.

I like both of your selections quite a bit. As you can see, Richard's fish have such lovely shiroji.
The pattern is very appealing on #22, I prefer it over #21.
You want the beni to be a nice and even tone and as they mature, let's hope that the beni pulls back from the tail to give them more of a tail stop. It's not crucial as witnessed by the fish in the AJKS but I do think it would improve the impression on both of these fish.

And for all that this is a growout, I wouldn't feed them so heavy that you push the beni beyond it's ability to hold the quality there.
I have a sanke and a kohaku from Richard and they are lovely fish. I think you will really enjoy watching how they develop in your pond.
Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

I'll say something when I feel I have something worth saying. I'm not a fan of flapping my lips just because they are there.

Thanks for the help Marilyn! So as the koi matures the beni may or may not pulll back some from the tail stop and I assume the tail stop is the point at which the tail meets the body? If fed too much their beni may become thin or stretched? you want sharp crisp edges?

Hey Marilyn if you do not mind can you PM the links to me too. I can use all the help I can get when it comes to technique. On another grow out I grew my Dainichi Showas too quickly and I got windows on their Beni. Shame because some of them good have been beautiful fish. I love Richard's Beni and I want to preserve it.

      Thanks

The improvement is 100% in most fish but the real damage was done early on so that cannot be changed.
