I thought I'd share a couple photos of the "permanent" install. I spray painted the pvc a grey to somewhat blend in with the tree trunks (ran out - need to get another can). I notched the top of the tower to accept the 1-1/2" water inlet pipe and topped it with a strainer (also notched over the pipe) held in place with a screw. I'll be running some 2" flex pvc to the waterfall box so the outflow will have some contact with the biofilter.

      Thanks for everyone's help.

I put a ball valve on the incoming water and that did the trick. It is making phoam, not much, but it's the middle of the day and the sun is blaring.

I used the MB3 media that I had laying around. I also cut a distribution disk out of plastic peg board that fits in the top of the standpipe. I'm going to put a piece of sun shade clothe in the top in case any small debris comes in.

      Collected this after 1st night!

Do I let it run for xxx amount of time and if it doesn't reduce, build another one? Is it just playing catch up or is this what I should expect daily?

From what I have read, the amount being produced goes down over time, and some end up turning them off due to lack of production after a time.

I think it's playing catch up now. Mine did eventually stop producing foam but each spring as the weather started to warm I could start it again and it'd
produce for a month or so before slow or stopping. Mine always produced more over night than during the day, fwiw.

      Sandy,
I am glad you are getting foam and can see that a properly built foam fractionator can work.
As long as you get some foam, keep it running. Time of day, temperature, time of year, can vary the amount of foam.
There is nothing wrong with experimenting, try to improve, making bigger foam fractionation.

I might add that in addition to DOCs removal, you are getting some additional biological filtration and pond aeration.

My experience is the same as icu2.

I hope your happy phoam tears are cleaner than the phoam I'm getting! My hubby looked at it today and said it's disgusting and dirty looking! I said yeah, and it smells pretty bad, too. LOL

Are you not getting phoam or the pump isn't pumping water? I hope you're not allergic to poison ivy! YIKES, it's taking over the bamboo.

Pump isn't getting any water so I'm gonna get a check valve to prime the pump and I hope that isn't poison ivy lol

Hopefully, priming the pump will work.

That is definitely poison ivy. I'm deathly allergic to it and watch every step I take in the yard. I know where every little wicked piece is!

That looks like 5 leaves not three. So in our neck of the woods, that is just some other invasive wild vine, not poison ivy.
